Who's getting the new M5?

I'll do it just for the nostalgia, and the trip over to Salzburg.

Anyone else?

personally the awd is a deal breaker, obviously its faster and will put power down more efficiently but the feeling is just not for me

You mean the "idea" cos nobody has driven it yet? What's with the obsession with rear wheel drive only when the M5's steering feel is nothing to write home about? I am fairly sure many would forget about this rear wheel drive "purist" insistence the moment they experience how well the power is put down vs the flashing DSC lights...

Not sure I can do another BMW after I get rid of the M4 .......if I do AWD is a must because the power is not really usable. Also depends on the looks, and I'm not feeling the current 5 series it looks like a 7. It will be between them Panamera GTS, and if the new E Coup comes if AMG I'm sold! If I do get the M5 I will not be a launch customer again because I have to touch and feel it this go around. First launch you get screwed because the better car comes out next the year.

That's so true. Their comp pack typically comes out 1.5 year later and makes everyone who bought the launch car feel like a kick on the balls.

I agree, but in the US where most lease the car, I don't think it's that big of a deal. But in other parts of the world, where they have to buy the car most of the time, then yeah, it would upset people.

As for the new M5, I also agree people should drive it before deciding. New technology turn off people some times, but after they use it, they often wonder how could they have gone though life without it.

Yes, and no ........first launch lease rates are terrible and some pay a mark up which will not be captured in financing. When I did euro delivery at first launch if I recall they were all purchases. I actually enjoyed my M5 and no issues, but BMW has gotten clever at spoon feeding product. All of a sudden in year two they found a way to make it better! (Good for them is a money maker)

I think some buyers are just getting fed up with the practice, and it could lead to other product purchases. I was a die hard BMW guy since 1999, and deviated in 2013 and got my first Porsche (3 since then). 2015 I tried the M4 yup same thing the better model came out two times after my purchase .........well let me say upgraded model(: I got lucky on my M5 which I purchased under MSRP, and sold it for 30k less than purchase after driving it for three years. I will consider the new one pending on looks and AWD is a must. I agree with Clar the steering is terrible and the same on the M4 ........I wish they could reverent the M3 E46.

I think its flawed to think because AWD it'll put more power down, you still have 600+whp on MPSS tires. These cars are almost to the point where they'll break out Cup2s or R888s with minor mods

Tire technology needs to come further above the 18'' category because right now affordable power is outpacing tire technology.

throwing in the same engine (well, with some update and tune, of course), give it an AWD capability and tech gadgets/revision into a new shell and calling it a new M5. BMW sure did their homework and hence lots of cost savings for themselves and yet it is likely will be selling at an even higher price than before.

Hmm. I for sure sure won't be getting it, this time around.

I'm super excited to see what they come up with for the M5... with all the comfort and tech and new gadge coupled with all that power and hopefully switchable AWD it's going to be a weapon... but I'll hold out for CP and lci before getting too hooked on it.. I hope they 'beef-up' the body and give it wider arches this time round so you can tell it's an M, not just an M sport!

I'll probably end up getting one around the 2021 timeframe. I'm waiting for LCI for the next F90 M5 and I'm going to do a full BMW Individual build. But for the near future I'm still not done with my F10 M5. Plus I have decided I will not be modding my next M car as heavily as I have the F10 M5. I'd actually rather buy the next generation M6 but it's not confirmed if there's even going to be a next generation 6-Series at all, what with the 8-Series confirmed as coming back.

And yes there is strong possibility of there being an ///M8 in the future as well.

It's cushy, no doubt about it. I knew what I was getting, and I like the cushy features more than I thought I would. The motor sounds great, and gives it a little edge.

I was comparing with the S8 plus. Love that car, just didn't want to buy it at the end of the platform lifecycle.

it's been about 9 months, and here I am again.....

I am definitely in for the next "M". After owning many cars I keep coming back to BMWs. On my second, M5, first was a lease. This is CPO. I will probably wait a couple of year then buy a CPO again.

I can vouch for that!! Some poor sod shed at least £80k of the new 650s spyder's value I bought after just 5 months and 400 miles

You missed the key words "as heavily." I'll still mod it of course.

But in my case I'm finally in a position to start collecting cars. So I'm not planning on ever getting rid of my F10. I plan on getting an E39 and another E60 before I get the F90 M5. My next E60 M5 is going to be a 6MT though and I'm very picky on options for the E60, so it's going to take a long time.
