New Bentley Continental - 664lbft with an 8 speed DCT

So VW can do it but BMW can't.

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...-and-info-news

The GT痴 standard powerplant is again a silken twin-turbo W-12, this one based on the all-new version first seen in the Bentayga. It utilizes both direct and port fuel injection, a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers, cylinder deactivation, variable valve lift, and auto stop/start. The 12-cylinder develops 626 horsepower at 6000 rpm預n increase of 26 horses over the Bentayga痴 mill. Torque is rated at 664 lb-ft at 1350 rpm, which matches that of the Bentayga and remains flat to 4500 rpm. On the off chance that anyone buying a $200,000-plus chariot cares, fuel efficiency is said to be improved by 16 percent.

The W-12 sends its torque to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic預 version of the Panamera痴 ZF-supplied unit羊ather than the former eight-speed torque-converter transmission. Bentley says the DCT痴 quicker shifts plus the ability to crank up shift firmness in Sport mode enhances the sporty feel of the car. There痴 even a launch-control feature, which should make for quite a show at stoplights.

I knew it was only a matter of time but didn't think you'd be the first one haha.

Shifts points @ 6000 rpm

Many words such as seemingly, sufficient, and deliberate are used rather than the normal deluge of bespoke. The focus is on perception compared to the outgoing car and not so much on component performance measurement in the whole market.

That massive clutch pack is insanely heavy and so large it requires a transmission tunnel of such width, Jenna Jameson is jealous.

Definitely an A+ job and will replace my GT Speed rather nicely. Flying Spur V8 is going to be a much better proposal than a Panamera Turbo S at the same price point.

I really like the 7 speed DCT. I've been reading plenty of your posts but after driving an X5M and M140i on a track recently, then straight after the M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 I'm not sold on the 8 speed auto at the moment. The F13 is still the lightest car with the S63TU and it has a DCT so appeals more to me than the new M5 I'll probably drive the new M5 next year at a BMW track day or possibly SHPG where this year they had the M760Li, i8, M2, M3, M4 down in the snow. Not that the snow gives you a good idea of everything about the car!

At that end of the scale in massive 2 doors, I'd go with the GTC4 Lusso instead of the Continental. Not that I'd be able to afford either.

Max torque starting from 1,350 RPM? Jesus Christ.

So a slight touch of the gas pedal / accelerator will give you a sudden jolt of power?

Would that be too much for most casual drivers? Would the pedal be too sensitive?

Same as the Bentayga- the weight of the car would offset the feel Im sure.

My GT Speed starts at 1700 and the Ghost is now down to below 1500. Sensitive is definitely not how I'd describe either. The New CGT is more to do with operating the clutches with the least amount of abuse.

It's definitely "sufficient" for the job.

Yup indeed.........and this new Continental GT sets the stage on how Bentley has evolved since it's humble beginnings in the early 20th century.

From it's humble beginnings to the famous Bentley Boys of the 1920s that were known for their passion for their high-end passion for their cars as they bring them to race tracks and auto events like Le Mans and whatnot.

The new Continental GT sets the stage for the next phase of Bentley as they will soon celebrate their 100th year anniversary on January 2019.

I miss my Bentley a little bit but not the depreciation. I guess I did have the sporty version though:

One sexy Bentley.

DCT can be built to hold the power comes down to what makes the best profit for manufacturers. Bentley is a way different price point over BMW. New autos have come a long way, but still an auto with a torque converter. I still prefer Duel Clutch transmissions over auto any day for a fast GT or sports car.
