Is Driving School Included?

Ordered an M5 this Saturday.....now the wait. One question I have tried to find with no luck. Does BMW include any sort of M driving school with the purchase? Dealer indicated they do, only that I have to get to Spartanburg at my expense. I dont plan on having the performance center delivery, but would be interested in the school if it is included.

Thanks

Not any more. The M5 used to come with the M5 Driving Experience. It was included in the purchase price and was essentially the same as the 1 Day M School. However it was discontinued with the F10 M5 as a cost cutting measure to help keep the base price close as close as possible to the E60 base price.

Don't let that stop you though! Take the 2 day M course. I took it a couple months ago. Absolutely incredible. Well run and you will learn alot not only about racing but about your new M5 specifically. Join BMWCCA and get 15% too. Drop in the bucket compared to what you just paid for your M.

I'm now signed up for the 2 day Advanced M School at VIR in April.

If you want to drive fast and learn how to do it safely in your car take the 2 day M course to start. One problem...once you get back on public roads you will realize you cannot even come close to what you can do on a race track (unless you don't care about police, potholes, animals jumping in front of your car, bad drivers, cars pulling out in front of you, veering off road and hitting a pole, etc)

Congrats on the new M. You will love it.

Previously, if you ordered a M5 or M6, before the F10/F12 or F13, you were entitled to 1 day of M school, but if you take Spartanburg Delivery, you do get a hour of track time at the Performance Center, in their M5, along with some instruction. Spartanburg Delivery also includes a factory tour, free night's stay and dinner at the local Marriott, and orientation for your car. Great experience, as is the various M Schools offered by BMW. If you can swing it, the best of both worlds is ED in Munich (saving on the price of the car and a great excuse to tour Europe and visit the BMW factories in Munich and Dingolfing), and then have Spartanburg Delivery. This is what I did last year. Good luck with your car, the M5 and M6 are amazing, and had a loaner M5 up to 180 mph last year, and would have hit 200 mph if not for the traffic.

I think it was discontinued because there is so much demand for the M School that it is booked out for a few months with paying customers. Doesn't make sense to increase the backlog for paying customers to let in free customers.

You should definitely go though. It's excellent.

Also you get a 15% discount if you're a CCA member which alone makes it worth joining the CCA, especially if you're doing the 2 day school.

Thanks for the info. I will check into the 2 Day School and agree that given the performance of the M, well worth it. Oh and I have been a CCA member since 1994.

Another happy 2 day M school participant. Try to pick dates that are for BMW CCA, gets you a chance to be exclusively with other members and people from BMW CCA...and of course get that discount. Make sure you get plenty of sleep before and especially between day 1 and 2......

For those interested in an M School, I reached out to Jonathan Stribble at the Performance Center in South Carolina, and he is, once again, doing his annual fundraising for the American Cancer Society, where he is offering up another chance to win a 1 Day M School. He has done this for the last several years.

You can also chose to apply the value of the 1 Day School towards another school, such as the 2 Day M School.

For each $10 donation to the American Cancer Society through Jonathan's site below, he will enter your name into the drawing (which is on Friday, May 23, 2014). He has all the details listed on his Relay for Life page:

http://main.acsevents.org/goto/stribble

Jonathan has done and continues to do great work raising money for the American Cancer Society.

So, if you are able, and want a chance to win a 1 Day M School, please support his efforts.

Thanks!

I was planning on going to M school, and my wife wanted to go as well. Is the one-day course worth it?
