Tinted headlights

Took the headlights out and had a shop paint them with a dark tint. I like the look with the painted IND grill and side markers on the Space Gray paint. Here are three pictures of the headlights, one in shade, one in sun, and one in complete dark with the headlights on. They still throw plenty of light for night driving, the difference from unpainted almost not noticeable.

should have baked them open and blacked out the housing instead to accomplish a similar look without affecting light output

Thank you so much for telling what I should have done, that is so helpful! I will go out and buy another set of headlights since you've told me the right way to do this! But you're right, it is a SIMILAR look but not the look I'm going for, so I can actually save my money.

Great mods.

Painted reflectors would go great with this! and maybe black door handle inserts.

Thanks. I still like the front orange reflector with the Space Gray, I know not many do, but I'm debating on the rear red reflector. I might go whole hog and have a body shop I trust fill in the reflector hole completely, or just paint the reflector. Decisions.

well technically you only semi-permanently ruined the headlights, nothing a little paint thinner and a good buff job cant fix

Ah come on man. He did what he wanted to do and Im quite sure if he wanted to take the route that you liked, he would have. Thats what makes this forum unique that everyone designs their car the way THEY want it. Some guys wont do any mods at all. I apploud everyone who takes it to another level, and he is one of the few who has done a light mod. Different ways to skin the cat. Some eat it after skinning it. Some just look at it after skinning it and admire the curves it has. He He

See, you're improving your style this time. At least you're suggesting a way to fix what you don't like, rather than just telling me I did it the wrong way. But, I do like what I've done and the light output is perfectly fine for seeing all the deer on the roads here in Michigan late at night. I was looking for the dark outer shell which can't be done by doing just the housing. Try to look for the positives, you'll be happier.

I'm not a fan. This style went out in late 90's.

I understand not being a fan, that's your call. Worrying about the style though is just being a follower. Do what you like, not what the 'in' style happens to be. I rode long boards during the 70's when the hot thing was short boards. Now, both boards have their niche.

I meant no disrespect, this is a forum so when people post new innovative things they do they subject themselves to opinion.

No, no disrespect felt either. Of course people may like or dislike anything, thank god we all don't like exactly the same thing! It was just the remark about going out of style that I didn't agree with. The required 'style' of the time can be foisted on us by clothing, automobile, or housing manufacturers and it is hard to buck the trends created, but I hope we all have enough conviction in our own taste to create what we like, damn the style!

Things that go out of style inevitably end up coming back. So perhaps you're ahead of your time. Bold people set trends, "normal" people follow them!

Not a fan - to me, a lot of the beauty of BMWs are in the details, and their headlight designs are a key focal point. Tinting the headlights just detracts from the beauty of the angel eyes.

I too think it depends on color. It works on yours and darker colors. Are you gonna do the tails to match? When I had my windows tinted the guy tried to get me to let him tint all the lights and reflectors as well. I declined (AW) but was wondering why you didn't just go that route instead of spray?
