M5 now or wait till end of year
I am a current e60 M5 owner and I have decided that the F10 M5 will be my next car. I will be in Europe this August and I am debating whether I should do an ED on the last remaining 14' or wait until the end of the year.
The pros with waiting till the end of the year is that the 15' will be out and dealers may be heavily discounting the 14'. However do you guys think the lease rates and will be just as aggressive they are now as compared to later in the year? I value you guys opinion and thanks for any suggestions. BTW, I did find a dealer that would do ED invoice + $1500. |

You will be paying a lot of money regardless of which M5 you get so why not just order it to your specification this you will be happy with what you get. The ED works out perfectly for you since you will already be there this summer. You will also have the flexibility to wait for your car to get shipped once you complete ED since you have another car.

These are all good suggestions. The one thing I'm concerned about is if there is a way that the factory can hold the vehicle for me. I think it would be produced in June / July, but I would not arrive until mid August.

Typically 2015 MY delivery will start on or around August 15th (you should ask dealer to confirm with BMW). So if you want a 2014 M5, you would need to pick a date before that.

Not sure where u are located, but I never considered ED over the summer only because it would cut into my time in good weather. Mid august ED, chances are you won't get it here til October. I planned mine around it arriving in the spring so that I could enjoy it right away since I'm in the northeast.

Fortunately, I live in charlotte nc, so we have mild winters compared to you guys further north. Although the polar vortex this year did make for an interesting time. :-) |

If your E60 M5 is running good, hasn't had a lot of problems, I wouldn't consider trading up unless you really need a bigger sedan. Both the F10 and the E60 M5 are epic cars, both have the same ///Mission, but the F10 executes it better in many ways. You have the bespokeness of the S85 V10, once you drive a stock F10 M5 for a while, it'll drive you crazy how quiet it is on the inside. The only reason I sold my E60 M5 was because it kept having too many problems and the best reason why I keep my F10 M5 is because I've modified my exhaust to make it sound as good as the V10 but just different, oh and the sway bars on the F10 M5 are just money. If my E60 M5 never had any problems or had very few I would still be driving it today the same with the F10 M5, if there was no exhaust setup to make it the way I like it, I would not still be driving it today.

The e60 is playful, fun, bespoke, v10 epic sound. I miss that car. I may even pick up another 6MT someday.
The F10 is fast (very fast) and luxurious. I like it. I don't love it. It's numb. It's heavy. Steering is mediocre. Certainly the DCT is miles beyond the SMG. DCT is actually the best part of the car for me. The torque is great, but I prefer linear and immediate NA throttle response. I'll also credit the F10's chassis and suspension, which is amazingly good at handling the weight of the car. It plows through just about anything without becoming unsettled. The F10 is a good car. I was going to sell it but values have fallen through the floor, and as an all rounder, there aren't any others I would clearly prefer. That said, when I look back a year or two from now, I won't miss the F10 If I were in your shoes, I would keep the e60 as the sedan and spend your money on a very special 2 seater that's lightweight and nimble as a counterpoint. |

Dude there are a few good examples of E60's with 6MT out there too. I keep an eye on the market. I want a 2009 or 2010 6MT though.

At higher rev's the F10 is just as great an engine to me as the E60...only considerably more powerful (F10). SMG was AWFUL (at anything less than WOT) whereas the DCT is incredible. The F10 is a better car in almost every way (except the weight, which the power overcomes in most driving situations). I would not think twice about trading up.

Waiting till the end of the year won't buy you too much if you lease. Chances are the residual will be much worse, money factor is super low now and probably won't get much lower. If the dealer gives you a heavier discount later, you lease payment will probably be about the same still, due to worse residual.
