Love the F10, but I'll always have a want for the E60 M5, that V10 is just so amazing. That sound is just insane.

I think it sounds pretty decent personally, but I agree that other V8s sound better. My friends MTM C5 RS6 for instance with the TT 4.2 sounds amazing.

Have you heard a fully revving and racing M5 F10 in person? Because it sounds better to me and much more refined. Those YouTube videos can't produce bass which is all this car's exhaust is about, they reproduce about 90% of E60 exhaust because of high tone and not even 10% of the growling, distinct alien bass that F10 makes.

I guess style and the sound could also be viewed as personal preferance.

My preference would be the F10 M5 because it does everything the E60 did but better.

Can we agree the new DCT is better than the old SMG or is that a preference too?

Yes Definitely a good video and review. Sucks that it was short and they didnt even show us the Video of the Sig Driving it. It was pouring rain and did a 1:25 or something. Would love to see what it would do on a dry day with the Sig!

By feedback here it would appear BMW may not sell many M5's in the US.

It'll be interesting to see the 2012 sales at the end of the year.

I was lucky to drive F10 and E60 back to back the other day...taking into account all the reports and reviews we all read on here you will still be surprised how significant the difference is between the 2.

After spending a decent amount of time in F10 and then getting back into E60 it felt so old, out of date, unrefined and under developed as an "ultimate driving" machine. Of course the F10 is a new car with 6 years development but still the advances M have made with the F10 defy belief. Yes the V10 sounds good above 5k revs but that was all there was to cling on to...imho

It will sell well in the U.S just like the other M5 cars for a number of reasons


1. Most of the soon to be new owners of f10 in the U.S are not even on this forum so the negative comments are those of the minority or not indicative of the majority of soon to be new owners. I am one of few soon to be new owners on the forum.

2. Most complaints about the active sound will die down and most will get to drive the car and then voila all will be well. One thing to hear a you tube video and another to go for a proper test drive.

3. f10 only true competitor in it's class is E63 PP and even the E63 PP struggles against f10. Forget about E60 or CTS-V. The new car will make mincemeat of those 2 cars in stock form.

4. Dying love for E60 is unsustainable. Eventually cars age and you have only one way to go if you are looking to upgrade to a super saloon car that does it all and carries the family around in comfort with M DNA.

5. Economy is starting to do well again and int rates are at historic lows.

6. There will be more performance compario and eventually there will be no more excuses like what about racing E60 with f10 from 0 (that is settled now), or rolling start 60mph or 80mph 3rd gear, rolling start with RPI stage X, etc. All those questions will be answered in due time and most will reluctantly accept the new car is better in every way. This is a cycle and this happened with E39 when most assumed E60 was too ugly, too weird, Automatic Manu Trans (SMG) and would not sell. big mistake.

I have not heard it in person yet unfortunately. Hoping to go to m school in SC once they change the fleet over to the f10 : )

Hmmmm...thanks for the info. I asked when I took PCD of my X5 in Dec also and they didn't seem to have a date. They have a TON of e60 M5s down there, so I imagine swapping over, while the F10 is in demand, does not make a lot of sense.
