Audis are VWs.

what this dude said - Audi's are glorified VWs

^^^So and not totally correct... a RS2 is worth more now than when new, a shorty- loads more or good 20v especially in pearl white is the same.

Having been a master tech for both brands I can say the Audis are better put together and less prone to issues, not by much but when you spanner on these brands day in, day out you notice.

^^^ Guess I ask for that on a BMW forum, I have mine based from working for both OEM's (and others)... you opinion (which you are fully entitled to) is from?

Any way probably like you I will stand by my opinion that Audi make a better product but with different dynamics.... did you see the RS6 keeping with a GTR on track lap after lap by one of the mag's... thats pretty impressive for a 2+ ton wagon!

My opinion is based on ownership - 2 S4s and 2 S6s. Quality and value are suspect. Try as the might - they never will be BMW or Mercedes.

How many 10 or 15 year old Audis do see on the road? Virtually none. My daily driver is 91 E34 M5. Bulletproof.

Again, depends where you live to how many 10 - 15 year old Audis you see, in Europe... millions!

In the USA, not many and thats no suprise as 20 years ago a few stupid american audi drivers stomped on the throttle when they meant to brake and crashed, then they blamed Audi, it was proven to be driver error everytime but that didn't stop the press going for Audi after 60minutes played dirty tricks. Audi nearly pulled out of the states because of the incorrect bad press and this has had an unfortunate long lasting legacy and effect on sales.

Your rational is just wrong.

Your opinion is just your opinion, post this conversation on an Audi forum and you will get a lot of feedback similar to mine and loads of 'BMW are crap and unreliable' opinions.... I have owned 6 BMWs and 11 Audis, 12 VW's among other cars including ford, GM, Porsche etc plus worked on all of them as a profession plus worked for the OEM's them selves. I now own a BMW M5 (my second) so think I am faily biassed neutral.

A quote for you>

60 Minutes aired a report titled "Out of Control" on November 23, 1986,[33] featuring interviews with six people who had sued Audi after reporting unintended acceleration, including footage of an Audi 5000 ostensibly displaying a surge of acceleration while the brake pedal was depressed.[34][35] Subsequent investigation revealed that 60 Minutes had not disclosed they had engineered the vehicle's behavior — fitting a canister of compressed air on the passenger-side floor, linked via a hose to a hole drilled into the transmission[33][34] — the arrangement executed by one of the experts who had testified on behalf of a plaintiff in a then pending lawsuit against Audi's parent company.[36]

No other country had these 'issues' even though their sales volumes were much larger.

I will leave it there SFT33, glad you enjoy your BMW's- they are great cars (I just think Audis are better )

My opinion is not based on the unintended acceleration issue. Old news and never swayed me against purchasing an Audi. Obvoiusly, there were things that attracted me to their cars in the first place. My opinion is based on an unsatisfactory ownership experience. Would never buy another one.

No hard feelings. I enjoy a good row. We are both entitled to our opinion. Although - clearly BMW and Mercedes are better.

Just got back from holiday and reading these responses.....very mixed to say the least!

I have to admit when I had my B7 RS4 avant I absolutely loved it..I also love my existing F10 m5 but they are very different cars. It perfect road conditions, the m5 is everything I need it to be, however, in the UK there is no such thing as perfect road conditions..

Ultimately, I actually think the m5 is pretty bad in fact terrible in the wet and there is just no point in having all that power because one can't use it on the roads..

With the RS quattro models however, the wet is really no issue and this is really the main reason why I am thinking about the switch and on top of that its in estate form, in my mind looks much better so think it is the only obvious choice for me.

As someone who has a family and lives in central London, I can't have a second car/toy or even a motorbike so I have to get all my thrills from one machine which has to be practical as well...I could never afford and RS4 new with the spec I want which would be over £100k however this time next year they should be around the 50k mark which puts it in my budget as long as I can convince the wife!

No worries, I too enjoy a good clean debate.

I only mentioned the 'unintended acceleration' because you mentioned the lack of 15+year audis on the road- this has a direct correlation due to the lack of sales from the bad press and nothing to do with quality, reliablity etc.

Anyway I will go back to driving my poor old, unloved BMW now
