Are P Zeroes now OEM Tires in Addition to the Michelin PSS???

Was driving yesterday next to another M5 with new plates and noticed that he had P Zeroes installed. Have a new MY15 on order and would be disappointed if it didn't have the PSS from the factory. The Michelin is such a better tire.

Thoughts/advice?

In a word, yes. This has been discussed before. It is now an OEM tire and it's a crap shoot of whether you will get the P-Zeros or the PSS's from the factory. You can't even tell your dealer when you order the car to make sure it has PSS's, they have no control over it. It's like some dude in the factory, is just like, well I have this large pile of P-Zero's sitting here and I have only a couple of PSS's lying around, I'll throw on the P-Zero's.

Curious, why don't they stick with one supplier/manufacturer?

BMW usually uses more than one supplier. Also the PSS rears have been in short supply. Try to get a replacement pair right now. Good luck.

Ugh. Well it's on the boat so we'll see.

I remember on the B7 with the 21"s they also had a hard time getting replacements so my dealer told me that they'd often have to replace all 4 when a customer got a flat.

Shame you can specify. Especially on an ordered M. Certain Italian manufacturers let you at no extra cost (even when they charge for absolutely everything else...)

My advise to you is to contact your SA and put him on notice that you want the pss tires and not the Pirelli. thats what i did, and was told that if they came with Pirelli they would swap them out. So do that and insist you want the PSS tires. fortunately for me, me i was notified today that the tires came in as PSS so its a moot point. At the very worse they may charge you a small amount for the change. good luck

I've also seen some newer M5's with the p-zero's. I'd take the PSS without question.

I think the swap is an easy ask if he has another on the lot with the PSS but I ordered the black 343's so I'd think that would have to match as well. I think I'm going to have to pay if they have to swap the rims...

It's an inferior tire. Tread life for one. Performance for another.

My rear P Zeros were at 3mm. Just replaced them at 7,800 miles.

I just took Euro delivery of my M5 at the Welt on Nov 20th and Michelin PSS's were on the vehicle.

Most likely similar build dates... Hopefully this is an indicator that you'll receive PSS's as well.

Anyways, I have a question:
For city driving, stop-and-go traffic and a few occasional motorway/highway drives (max speed below 200 km/h), will it be that much of a dealbraker to have Pirelli P-Zero over the PSS ones?

You would think they would at least bother to put the better tires on a 30 year edition. I mean they fine tune the engine, the handling, etc. and then downgrade the largest single performance driver - the tires. I could imagine these P Zeros will make this 30 year edition slower than the CP edition with PSS on track.

If you aren't engaging in hard acceleration and cornering you won't notice the difference. But if you aren't driving the car that way, why bother with the 30 year edition.

Agreed. That is ridiculous.

I think BMW should offer the PSS and Cup2's as OEM tires for the current M Lineup.

Cup 2 would be controversial I think if it is randomly forced on people. I personally would be angry if my car came with Cup 2s because I LOVE driving fast in the rain. Wet weather driving in the M5 is a joy for me and Cup 2s would ruin that.

Cup2s would be a liability issue for BMW for sure.

Let me rephrase that, "optional" OEM tire. Lol!
