Do you step on the gas hard enough to pass the kickdown point?
And are you talking about Drive mode or Sequential mode?

In Sequential mode you have to:
Kickdown: for maximum acceleration, e. g. when
passing. To do this, depress the accelerator
pedal past the resistance point, and pull the left
shift paddle once or push the shift lever forward
once.

In Drive mode you have to:
Kickdown: for maximum acceleration, e. g. when
passing. To do this, depress the accelerator
pedal past the resistance point

No it's not normal! what about Sequential? check it out. Drive at 60mph in 5-6th gear, then floor it and push the lever forward once or pull the left paddle once. See if it works.... BTW, you originally said just sport+ mode ya? it means in sport and efficient mode it's working fine right?

So are you in any D-Mode when you floor it? D1, D2, or D3?? Even on D1 Mode, when you floor it, the DCT downshifts very fast! If it's not downshifting in any D-Mode then something is wrong. In S-Mode, it's not supposed to downshift for you.

The only way I have found to convey this to the shop foremen (the dude that will make the final decision problem yes/no )on your car is to have someone ride along with you and make a video of what is going on when you are driving. Clearly show yourself putting the car in the modes you are talking about then record the dash with the car not performing as it should. Also easy to post online and let the M5 gurus tell you their thoughts.

Does the dash where the gear indicator is located show 6 S when it won't kick down?

I think I misunderstand your post, it still sounds like something is wrong. Do you only hit M2 when you're cruising on the freeway in 7th? Because in S mode it won't kick down, but it shouldn't up shift either unless you hit the paddles or gear lever. So, if you're at a stop and press "your" M2 it will stay in first when you take off unless you shift.

Between this post and the MDM Mode post, I am thinking about starting a school to teach people how to operate their M5's.
