Agreed. The M3/M4 is amazing and I own Jahre. They are different cars and should not be compared to each other.

The biggest challenge in my opinion is the noise the car generates and to be frank this is something lost in mordern turbo BMWs. Otherwise, it is a step (or several) ahead of the previous gen car.

I agree. They should have used a competition package M5/M6 GC but they got their hands on the Jahre and had to do something with it!

The E9X seats we're a mistake, ugly, too high up, and not as sporty as any other gen M3 (it's missing the fixed headrest!). F80 revs very high for a turbo car, only 800 rpm difference compared to yours. More HP, lots more torque, faster, solid low end grunt, better mid range, carbon fiber roof for the sedan, lighter, better suspension, way better MPG, brembo brakes vs them crusty/ugly/horrid sliding calipers, much nicer 6MT. Out of all the M3's the hydraulic steering racks the e90s was the worst, and the e9x is the heaviest pig. The one category I'll give the e9x is sound of course but that's not big a deal to me anyways. I have a smile every time I drive her. I'm sure you love you e90 too but sorry I had to say something. **flame suit on**
So your car is basically a chipped 335i (N54) with some carbon fiber plastic bits... sorry I had to say something.

Curious why you paid extra for Tanzanite when you could have had Imperial Blue.

They are pretty similar no?

Throwing my 2 cents in, in my opinion (and just that), I prefer the F10 M5. The latest M3/M4 is nicely done and a great car, but just is more a compromise as a daily driver. I'm not thrilled with the exhaust note either. The E92 was just fantastic on the track with an addictive exhaust note but not much difference from a 335is on the street.

Whereas the F10 may feel big to some, I guess I am just used to it. Plus it can be a luxury cruiser that morphs into a very capable car in the twisties or a track beast at a touch of the button. If you are willing to deal with tire wear, it will keep up with just about any car on track and blow a dedicated track car owners mind as you hang with it in the corners and blow past it down the next straight. Yes I did that at CMP (Kershaw SC) and will surely do that at VIR next weekend. Stay tuned.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have owned many BMWs in the past (a 2002, 316d, 318d and a 525i). I have also lived in Europe and now in America. BTW, all my diesels have been chipped, so I have experience trust me.

I just can't get inline with BMWs strategy anymore. Take the same basic platform and provide very minor tweaks and some plastic components and overcharge the general public, its sickening. I remember when BMW NA engines meant something.

Along with the poster above, a new M4 is pretty much this:

Just so you know, the picture above is photoshopped in the BMW manufacturing manner. Taking a lower model, 335i in this case, and just sticking a new badge on top.

To each his own. I would still have the E63 WAGON.

So you are accusing BMW of photoshopping (please provide evidence) and wanting to make money. Oh the humanity.

Well, despite the closeness of the body shape and btw same goes for Audi RS, Merc AMG, the //M cars vs non-M cars are very different beasts underneath - suspension, engine, brakes, driving dynamics are worlds apart. Just drive a 435 and M4 or 535 and M5 back to back to feel the difference. The more you can push them, the more perceptible the difference. Going forward, it will likely become even more pronounced. Cosmetically, they don't look all that different though.

Sensationalism to sell more. Every writer pulls crap like this to stir the pot.

M5 is not inherently better than the M3, or vice-versa. They are different cars with different purposes.

...seriously? I am an enthusiast and it was a huge success in my eyes. You drive an e90 so lets compare shall we? Clearly you own a F80 and I did not want to offend anyone who owns one. However, IMO did not think the F80 actually it is better than the E90. Actually I own a E46 too and I think the E46 was a better car than the E90, however, I still like the E90 and decided to buy one. However I did not feel the same way with the F80. The looks are subjective (not crazy about it), yes it has more technology and it is faster, but it stops short of providing me with the desire of owing one. It may be the way it feels bulky and drives or the steering or the lack of soul of the exhaust, but I can't make my mind it is worth my dollars. I will wait for the M2, but I am sure BMW will sell plenty of F80, however, I won't be one of them. Cheers!

The sad reality is that with each iteration BMW becomes a different car for some of us, some of us learn to love the new generations and some of us wish the technology was more balanced. A stock F80 might be perfect for some, but for others the S65/S85 was a generational landmark which we will miss.

I instantly loved my E46 M3 because it was classic BMW for me. My E90 was a different car to drive, but I learned to love it and modified with a supercharger produced amazing hp.
Let's just say that we will all have a generation of M Car that we will associate with.

They are all fantastic. For me it's been an awesome experience !

If anyone thinks an Me90 is anything like a 335 on the street then you never drove an e90 and had to suffer with a loaner 335. 335 is closer to my kid's Accord than an M3. Gimme a break.

Dude, he drives a Mercedes E class, what would you expect? Hmm?
You can get almost every Merc with an AMG package..

Good article. The quote about M3/M4 is unnecessary.
