Wheel & Tire Coverage M5
Picking up my new M5 next week and debating the wheel and tire coverage. I had been thinking of "self insuring". Having my local tire shop warrant the tires and use insurance company if I bust a wheel.
This idea was posed to me from someone that has the wheel and tire coverage.... Buy the coverage, burn the tires off it, "accidently" run over a nail = Get a brand new tire. Goal is to never buy a tire for the length of the lease. Thoughts.... |

Have they given you a quote? Seems they are in the $2-3k range. It's insurance, so you have to look at your risk for damage during the life of the lease.
I am going to self-insure as I have only had one nail in my tires in the past 5 years, plus the roads around here are pretty good. Look at the roads you will be driving on, bad roads? Potholes? What is your history with tire/wheel problems? I personally wouldn't feel comfortable intentionally causing damage to a tire in order to cash in on an insurance policy. |

I'd self insure and buy warranty certificates for the tires from Americas tire or Discount Tire (same company diff locations) for about $60 per tire. Covers the tire for whatever reason no questions asked.
It doesn't cover the wheels so you have to evaluate whether that's important to you. Wheel and tire insurance is about 1500-2000 through BMW. That is what I remember when I inquired about 6 months ago through Greg at Pacific BMW.

Biggest concern for me is not really the tires as I always get road hazard but the op is looking to never have to replace his tires again. Road size hazard will not cover that so self insured is not an option.
Also, I've had close to 5 nails in my tires in the past 6 months and 1 blow out due to a pot hole and 1 tire slashing. Tire and wheel warranty was my savior. Lol 343M wheels brand new are 1700 each.

Get it. Had it in my 7series and now on my m5. It's already paid for itself.
