Pirelli vs Michelin

Debating on Pirelli p zero or Michelin pilot super sports for my f10 m5. I currently have pilot super sports on the car but they're back ordered. The Pirelli p zeros are available now. Has anyone had experience with both tires? What's your analysis?

I ran the Pirelli on my Mustang a few years ago, and they were great all around tires. Matter of fact, they actually come standard on the new Mustang Perf package now. I would say that if you cant wait for the Michelin's, you wont be dissapointed with the Pirelli IMO

Having had both back-to-back at low mileage levels on my Jaguar F-Type R I would say you have to get the PSS. The Pirelli lacks grip so you will have noticeably more wheel spin with the Pirelli. I had the Pirelli on my car for 2500 miles, and the PSS for 5000 miles so I experienced both tires at a similar wear level which makes my comparison valid.

I've had both sets and personally love the grip on my Pirelli PZero compared to PSS. I'm @ 690whp.

My only gripe is the low thread wear compare to PSS. The PSS lasted longer

If you do go PZero, pick up the 305/30/20 99Y for the tears. They fit perfectly on the stock 343M. MUST be 99Y and they run 315 on tire rack.

I pick up my fronts from this seller. Picked up several sets as did my friends. Great seller and competitive price. I paid 340 few weeks ago. It's higher today but keep an eye out with him. Still at 400 for two it's a hell of a deal and arrived same week

PZeros are a better bet. Run four sets of 305s on the rear and on third set on front. This car enjoys to be driven, and with the torque, tires don't last, especially rears. PSS overrated IMO. Had PSS on my 13 M5 and honestly the difference for the price isn't worth the money.

With my setup road noise from tires is the least of my concerns, I would never be able to hear over the exhaust!

Agreed I noticed this immediately. I went through two sets of PSS on my 14 (waited forever on them because I didn't want Pzeros) and the 16 I just picked up has Pzeros which I wasn't happy about but so far I haven't been able to tell the difference with the exception of it seeming quieter on the interstate. Will see about wear I got over 20k on both sets of PSS

I currently have both. I have MPSS on my OEM and Pirelli on my aftermarket.
Traction: MPSS > Pirelli.
Road Noise: Pirelli > MPSS
Handling: Same i feel
Absorbing road bump: MPSS > Pirelli
Heavy rain/wet condition: Pirelli < MPSS.
Sidwall looks: MPSS > Pirelli

I think its a though call between the two. I think for me it would boil down the price and availability when its time for me to choose again.

My M5 came with Pirelli tires and I replaced them with the MPSS about a month ago and agree with M5Beast's analysis except for handling.

Turn in is more precise and there is less roll with the Michelins. The other problem with the Pirelli tires is how fast they wear with the lower tread wear rating. I hope I get more life out of the Michelins.

I would prefer the MPSS but could easily live with the Pirelli tires if necessary.

Dave

Mbdurham, I predict you will be lucky to get much more than 10k miles out of the Pirelli rear tires.

10k Oh wow that's horrible got 24k out of the first set of PSS (needed to be replaced about 22 but had to wait) second set had 5/32 front and 4/32 rear with 47k on it when I traded in this weekend. Looks like I'll be going back with PSS when it's time to change if I only get 10k out of them.

Old thread alert but curious on updated tire wear thoughts now that everyone has even more experience about this. I have Pirellis and have 6500 miles on them...... rears are at 6/32, no more, fronts are maybe 8/32 as expected. so thinking they will make 10k by late Fall but not much more? I always thought the MPSS were quieter but not sure now after reading here. Maybe MP4s next Spring (use winters from Dec to March)?
