Removing charcoal filter and adding K&N will add power. People often test the paper element filters vs K&N when both are new, but I believe a more accurate test would be testing with moderately soiled filters. Reality is that the paper elements flow significantly less as they soil.
Regarding oiling the MAF, K&N filters are so cheap why not just replace them everytime if its a concern? Finally, the comments about the airbox... I dont know who came up with the directions that seemingly everyone follows to do this. Following these directions and trying to reach that #7 screw while the box is still in the car is a joke. On the side of the box nearest the fender is a single Torx bolt that holds each box to the body. Remove it, loosen the jubilee clip screw with a standard flate head nearest the TB and pull the whole assembly up and out. There are a few clips holding it in place, as well as a little inlet ducting from the front of the car, but it all pops right out and then back in place when completed. VOILA!!
