The M buttons

My question plain and simple is... Is there a difference between using the M buttons on the steering wheel or individually setting all of the Sport/Sport+ settings? I've read the previous generation it did give an extra 100hp, but I know that's not the case with our F10's. So other than seeing the tach on the HUD, is the car going to handle or react any differently? I've just passed the break-in mileage so I've now just begun to experiment but so far I can't tell a difference although being so new to the car I've yet to become 'one' with it and may not be reading all of it's tells.

Find the settings you like and set them as M1 or M2.
I have M1 set for paddle shifting. M2 is set at D3/MDM. When I go to M2 is because I about to crush challengers on the road.

As said, pick the settings you like, hold down M button to program it. Think of it like memory seating, but for the drivetrain. I have M2 set for launch control. Press it twice and look like a complete jerk at the stoplight. Whatever suits you

Thanks guys,
Good to know that the 'M' is more like a 'memory' button than some other special mode. I also liked the tip of holding the button down to reprogram it's settings.
Now to wait for a flashy muscle car to pull up beside me and have him watch my rear bumper disappear into the horizon
My dad would have loved to drive this car, he would have called it a 'sleeper' something you'd never suspect to have all that performance from a quick glance at it.

Humm I think that having two M buttons is a waste. maybe because I am simple when driving I want two modes normal driving then beast mode. The only thing I see with the two buttons is that you can have comfort, sport, then sport plus......which can be programed into one button.

As others have already answered, no there is nothing else you can get with the M1 or M2 button on the F10 M5 besides the Heads Up Display. It's not like on the E60 M5 where you can only access the best throttle response setting only with the ///M Button. Everyone has their M1 and M2 set differently and from time to time I change my M1 and M2 settings just to adjust for different regimes I want my M5 to be at the touch of a button.

The only thing that annoys me is that after you are done having fun and want to go back to normal mode and push the M1 or M2 button again, the DCT always reverts back to D1 mode. I wish that it would just go back to the setting I had it in before I pushed the M1 or M2 button. 1st world problems.

Are you positive Dave? From my experience, the exhaust sounds my louder/throatier with M2/M1 mode selected as opposed to non-M mode with the exact same throttle, trans, steering, suspension settings.

Perhaps just a placebo effect? I could swear that the car is more livelier in M-mode.

I'm pretty sure it's this.
