New Single Oil Standard Issued? BMW N.A. 11/9/12

Guys I revieved a voicemail on Friday from my service guy ( my car is going in for the 1,200 service this week). I had asked him about what oil we should use.

In his voicemail he seemed to be reading from a BMW release that was stating the ONLY recommended oil is now the BMW 5W30.

Has anyone heard the samething?

Any chance he might have been reading something out of context?

Thanks for your innput.

I just made it home from the dealer. I saw the service techs screen. Sure looks like the BMW 5W30 oil is the only oil now listed under the 1,200 miles service.

The tech mentioned when he logged in this morning he kind of remembers seeing a notice that might have dealt with the issue, but he was not sure.

So that is all I have.

dealers only have 5w30 stocked because they are commonly used for all models.

Thanks for looking into this.
