I would like to see if the new E63 RWD can come closer to M5 on the 'ring
4Matic version will be a rival for RS6. Now I'm wondering why BMW didn't put a little more power in their M6 GC! |

what the hell they were doing here i dont know. its like they took the front (which was the best part of the car) and replaced it with what looks like a cross between a kia and a hyundai.. i mean whats with those front air dams?? waaaay to big!!! the front end is just too much of a departure from the rest of the car, which is pretty much unchanged... just dont get it. |

I don't know why but I'm glad E63s are about to start butchering M5. Maybe because it's finally a proof to lazy BMW to improve ///Ms back into solid track cars and I can't say F10 and F12s are nearly as enjoyable to drive as previous generation is either. Previous generation models were fastest and enjoyable cars and stayed so for 7 years of their lifetime.
It's not even 1 year since M5 is out and it already has the slowest 0-100 km/h sedan of the competition with the new E63, RS6, Panamera etc and "They have 4WD!!!" isn't an excuse - BMW should've foreseen this too. The upcoming money-grab LCI of an already beautiful (and destroying resale value of cars of loyal customers who rushed to buy the first year car at all costs and with all problems it has) car won't help the drowning image of "slowest luxury sedan in the world" which it will likely be in the next 6 years. |

It's supposed to be, but they went much further than most LCIs for either MB or BMW. Front and rear refreshes are common, but they changed a lot of sheet metal as well. The old E had "pontoon" rear fenders (look at a pic of a 2013 model). They've eliminated those and have pretty significantly modified the rear fenders and the rear doors. It's surprising.

Given that BMW is already well on the way to finialising their LCI, i doubt they now have the time or are willing to put 4wd on the M5.
It's a pity since this could very likely make the 4wd 430kw E63 quicker on the track than the M5. I wonder how M-division will address this or will they have to wait until the F10 is completely replaced? Unfortunately for us in Oz...the E63 AMG is not being made in right hand drive (its LHD only). Fortunately for M5 owners here that means the M5 will still be hightly competetive with the 410kw RWD E63 that will be the only version available here. But if the next gen M5 lacks 4wd and with the next gen E63 confirmed that 4-matic verison will be available in RHD markets too....M-division may see a loss of sales down here. Any ideas how M-Division will try and keep the F10 M5 competetive with the 4-matic E63 in the meantime?

Interesting that a large number of posts are discounting the Merc because of it's styling. I remember when you could easily dismiss a Merc because the BMW was the true drivers car, and the Merc just couldn't even get close in handling, response, and the overall driving experience.
Now I'm afraid that BMW has simply lost it's edge. They're not lighter, not faster, not better steering, and maybe a bit better handling and road feel, but not in a different class like they used to be. The fact that BMW can't seem to figure out how to put AWD in their flagship luxury performance sedan means that they are playing catch-up now. |

Very well said. M has come to a point where they have to make some important decisions for the future. Otherwise they will fall behind the competition. About 4WD - tested my friends GT-R P800 in rain an low temperatures the other day. 80-200 km/h in just over 6s!!!!! Talk about traction.......

I think at some point many need to understand we drive a very nice car, and it's not perfect. No car builder will always have the fastest car, and I assume like many we buy a car based on the value and over all experience. Hell if you want a fast car just buy the new Camaro that thing smokes, but guess what it does not meet the overall value.
Less than 10% of the drivers will use the M5 for it's full potential. I love reading the stories, and I have not read any really cool track stories so what is the car being used for? Drive the kids, go to Starbucks and open it up and hope the cops are not looking right? Oh yeah add some mods and make it look really cool. Love the board which really helped with my ED experience, but these rants abou not having the fastest car is pretty over done when we are not reading some great race stories. Reving the engine in the parking lot it not racing by the way(: just have fun guys I love my M5 and it's cool driving to Starbucks(: Last edited by Bimmer6; 01-13-2013 at 07:22 PM.. |

I bet A 550 with x drive and Dinan stage 3 tune can hang with the M5 from a dig. ( for a little bit at least...not top end though)
Yes next M5 model will most likely have x drive. |

M5 Not being used up to its full potential
I completely agree @Bimmer6, most of the time we are not going to push it to the boundaries, I think it is just that feeling of power and dominance. I actually ordered an M5 Monte Carlo Blue :P (really excited), After looking at the Merc only one thing is keeping me going, the fact that BMW's in my opinion are much better to drive, the other fact being the Horsepower battle is not ending. Since I have not owned one yet I could perhaps get some input on what the M5 is like to drive everyday

The M5 is a perfect all around vehicle. All you ///M5 bashers I sincerely doubt many of you will jump ship and get an E63 AMG. Outside of the black series, SLS, and maybe the G wagon, Mercedes has an unattractive portfolio to my eyes.

It's about personal preference and taste. Most of these benchmarks have nothing to do with most of us.
I like all those cars but prefer BMW and the m5.
