US stock M5 top speed

Got a little room to run yesterday, got it up to 167mph indicated 165mph on the GPS, in 6th gear. After rushing up to 165 like a rocket ship, it just stopped wanting to go any faster, plenty of room left in the rev indicator. Assuming others have bumped up against the same limit, any easy (relatively) work-arounds to defeat/override? Not that there every is a reason to go more than 165, I would really like to get my speed warning on the car to go "BING" since I have get it for 170mph.

Short of driving off a cliff and testing the free fall speed...

Nope can't raise the speedlimiter except for buying the M Drivers package which is not available in NA

You're lucky, our speed warnings are set by BMW at 70mph. That can't be removed!

Speed limiter can be adjusted through the OBD port using the right tool.
Any BMW tuner can do this easy.

Huh?? The top speed limiter can be removed via coding? I don't think so

Nope, not as easy as it sounds. No tuner can just take off the limiter without doing anything else to the tune. Trust me, I've asked around, but this was months ago. Unless someone can prove me wrong today right now. I just want a tune that removes the limiter, that's it. I've been told that the limiter is in a place within the ECU coding that is extremely difficult to crack. Also, I haven't heard of anyone running the F10 M5 past 190mph, which is the Euro limiter. I'm still determined to be the first person in the United States to break 200mph on the stock tune! Muahaha!

Had many of mine done here in the UK, not sure if the M5 code has been cracked yet though.

Check with Evolve they may have the answer.

Sorry just my personal opinion, but I don't trust Evolve with anything. Just the other week my friends E60 M5 engine died on him cause he had the Evolve tune on it. He returned his tune to stock and the car ran fine again.

It's a special code/coding from BMW when you buy the M Driver package .
It removes the top speed governor.
So far no aftermarket tuner has been able to remove the governor , all tuner cars have usually been ordered with the M Driver's Package (see Manhart's thread)

That's interesting because the Dinan tuned F10 550i is not speed limited.

Exact number I got last Sunday. 167 at no more.

That's already 12mph faster than the official limited top speed (and not something to try on public roads...)

167 indicated. GPS would be a little slower as stated.

Absolutely cannot be done without a very special software. I will keep you guys posted. This may be available in the near future. No "tuners" are going to be able to do this.

So much for all the hype about the F10 M5 being "mod friendly"

I might be getting addicited to the speed, did it again today on the return leg of the trip. The sun was out, the road had that shiny glow of newly paved smooth tarmac, rader detector set to high... Shifting up gears at the optimal RPM gives it a smooth satisfying click and lunge forward, while the Akrapovic make that sweet sweet music. Again mind blowing how quickly it gets to exactly 167mph indicated but not a mile more. I suppose in the big scheme of things going any faster would not add any more drama. Thanks for the info guys.
