Time for an xdrive M5!!!???

Boyz, did you see the latest motor trend comparo with the GC and S7?
http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=797346

Four wheel drive cars are killing us.
Cars with around 450hp and heavier than M5 are faster than M5 (0-60 and 1/4 mile). This is totally ridiculous.

What's the point of owning an M5 if any car that has approx. 400hp but is 4wheel drive, will demolish my M5?

I don't know about you guys but this bothers me a bit.
Part of me bought the M5 for the heritage but also part of me bought it because I wanted to have the fastest sedan on the road and not the fastest sedan on the road with an "asterisk" (if you know what I mean).

Maybe it's time to slap xdrive to the M5? Everyone else is doing it, isn't it unavoidable that BMW will have to smell the coffee and follow the rest of the crowd?

And if BMW does comes out with an xdrive M5, who will still buy a RWD M5?
Maybe that's the reason that all dealers are stuck with a ton of M5's on their lots? People are just not seeing the value in an M5 when they can just get an Xdrive GC or S7 or S6, etc and to be just as fast without having to spend the extra $$$ ??

Don't get me wrong, I love my M5 but if every other car on the road is faster than mine (especially that M5 is out less than a year now) I just don't know, I feel that the M5 will lose its value in my eyes and if I feel like that (being the biggest M5 fan for years), this will just kill it for many of us.

I don't know guys, am I the only one that feels this way?

You mean 0-60 in 3.7 seconds with launch control in a 4,300lb rear wheel drive german sedan isn't beating these guys?! This is isn't fast enough for you?

I'll take rear wheel drive every day all day over the competition.

Can those all wheel drive cars do this as well?!

Yeah I agree. It would be cool to have AWD. I bet it will bump the price up a bit as well. Maybe some of the track enthusiast will still like RWD.

All the reviews that i read (edmunds, motor trend and many others) have timed the M5 at 4.2 - 4.4 secs to 60mph.

You were able to do 3.7 with your car even with launch control?

It seriously doesn't bother you that the S6 (not RS6) with 420 HP or the S8 is faster than M5 (0-60 and 1/4 mile)?

I get the "fun" on the track but still knowing the above does nothing to you?

From anything but a stand still I'm not worried about the AWD cars outrunning my M5. Most acceleration contest seem to be from a rolling start.

That said, I'd absolutely go for an AWD M5! AWD can drift no problem. And the real world performance advantages of AWD are just too good to ignore. Porsche and Audi have figured out how to offer up AWD in exciting driver's cars, BMW can figure it out as well. Anyone seen the 0-60 on an AWD 550? Personally I'd prefer BMW offer both RWD and AWD versions of the M5. And yes I'd pay extra for the AWD....

It doesn't bother, because I simply don't believe the times posted by Car&Driver for the S6 or the S8. If I encounter one in the real world, I'll let everyone know who wins.

The only All Wheel Drive car I wouldn't mind having is an Audi R8. Even the 458 Italia isn't AWD and it comes in slighty behind the AWD GTR.

I'd rather see BMW shed some weight off future ///M cars rather than go AWD. It's the weight that's killing the ///M's not the lack of AWD. RWD is one of the last qualities that ///M cars still have after they decided to use turbos instead of NA engines. If they ever put AWD on an ///M car, I think I might have to quit the brand. Lol!

New MB E 63 AMG does with 4Matic 0-100 km(0-62) in just 3.6 seconds, and M5 4.4. It isn't small cap.

I love my M5 but I plan on selling it as soon as the E63 and RS7 arrive and purchase one of the two. For anyone who believes the M5 will remain competitive in the marketplace without AWD is just kidding themselves.

M5 should be fairly competitive, the new full time AWD E63 will only see the tail light of F10 M5 from 60mph+ acceleration. Those full time AWD system is completely waste of hp/energy once get up to speed.

So, they say that the S7 0-60 is 3.9... but, did you also catch that the 650 clocked at 4.2? so a 650 is as fast or faster than an M5? ya right.

Oh god, here we go again with one of these posts. Seriously who gives a shit about AWD, if you do go buy a dam gtr. I can only understand you wanting an AWD, if where you live has very cold weather through out the year. Like RPI said, you guys need to stop scrolling the internet and trying to find what manufactures rate their 0-60 time. And ******* go drive your m5 how its supposed to be driven. Go to third gear around 70mph, turn traction off and put the hammer down and tell me you want AWD. A 0-60 time of 3.6 is very achievable with the m5 as long as you know how to do it right.

I bet 75% of these people with m5's don't even use launch control. LOL

This is true. I've been meaning to get a vBox to use with Launch Control. This M5 can definitely do sub 4.0 second 0-60 all day long. The Active ///M Differential is built to get great 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times. I've heard of one F13 ///M6 Coupe doing a 0-60 time of only 3.5 seconds. Almost not a day goes by that I don't mash my throttle with DSC off in the F10, there's no way I'd want AWD to take away that type of fun!
