Window tinting advise!

Guys, have an appointment at 7 am tomorrow for window tinting.

Tinter recommends CXP and says Wincos is absolutely the best. CXP is $350 and Wincos is $400. No windshield.

I'm looking for a little bit of privacy - but don't want a very dark Tint. Have a baby in the back and just want enough so that he can sleep without getting glaring sun in his eyes.

Questions:
- CXP or Wincos? Price is not an issue. Have not heard of Wincos before. But he said more heat rejection than CXP
- he recommend Wincos 20%. After searching this forum seems like 20% is too dark. There was a 35% and lighter then that as well
- he said I can't lower the windows for 3 days! Is that true?
- what happens at lease end? Do I have to remove the tint before returning the car.

Thanks!

- I went 3m color stable 35% on my car as I don't want it too dark especially at night. I think I paid $275(I have black interior so tint looks darker than it is)
- You can lower the windows but dont do it every time. My installer told me to give it at least 48hrs to cure.
- My previous car was a lease and I just left it on there, dealer didnt have a problem with it on.

In my experience, I have never heard of those two brands and I've been in he auto scene for some time now. These are the top tint brands for automotive with Llumar and Huper Optik being my favorites. I think $400 is on the high side as I've paid around the $200 mark for most of my cars including my M5. For that price you might as well look at Ceramic Tint.

Suntek, Llumar, Huper Optik, SolarGard, some 3M brands.

Have you thought about going 20% to Limo on your rear windows and 35% on the front two. I personally went 25% on my rear window and 5% on all 4 side windows. The rear window being a shade lighter brings the light in.

48-72 hour cure time is standard and recommended.

I've never heard of those brands you were quoted either.
Personally my favorite is Formula One Pinnacle Series, which is high quality ceramic tint.
I did 25% on all windows except the windshield. The windshield I did in 70%. I went a little darker because I have the full merino in Silverstone which is pretty light.
300-400 for the whole car with a "high quality" tint is about right.
Good luck and shop around, I wouldn't use the two brands you mentioned. Yes, you need to let the window tint cure, most shops recommend do not roll down for 72 hours.
Here's a pic so you can see:

I believe that huper optik is the best of the best tint.

Best of luck

Thanks guys for all the responses. Very helpful. This tint shop came in highly recommended from a few people. But he also mentioned Huper as the ultimate. He doesn't that have in stock. I think I will just wait for Huper to come in and do it then...

Thanks again

The darker the better it looks, however, I do not enjoy when its hard to see the outside. On my old car I had 20% around, and windshield remained clean. I have Black interior so 20% was about right, and never got any "compliments" from police about it as well, even tho legal was 35%.
As for 35%, I think its too light and does not give privacy. What you could do is put 35% on the front and around 15% on your back for the baby, but in my opinion mismatch in tint looks weird.

Yes you can not roll windows down for at lease 12 hours, then roll them down no more than 30%. In 48 hours you can roll them up and down as much as you want.

Hope this helps to get an idea.

PS: on my next car I will go 20% again since I enjoyed it and I think it looked great.

Just got a message from the tint shop. He was able to get the Huper. I will see the tints again tomorrow morning and choose.

However one concern - he uses truecut software to cut the films. When he was scrolling through that, he couldn't find M5 for 2015 BMW's. He says the 5 series cuts are the same as M5. Is that right? I do think the M5 and 5 series share some panels but has anyone else run Into this? Don't want a bad fit.

Please let me know! This forum is amazing - so much help available from very helpful people. Thanks guys

I think your tint looks great. It's not really dark and just about ample privacy. I will ask about this as well. 25% on all windows (sides and back)?

Thanks

Yours looks good, and quite menacing. Suits the color tone and personality of the car. I have moonstone so it won't go too well with that. Thanks for sharing.

Who's doing the install? Art of tint? Huper is awesome and I've had it on 2 Ms including my current M6GC. 40% is perfect with black leather interior. I would go a little darker if you have lighter interior. In NY you don't want to be hassled, especially in NYC. When you trade in, like others mention, leave the tint on. Dealers don't care.

This is in South Jersey (SJ Tinting) by my parent's place. I'm here till tomorrow and figured can get it done. 2 of my parent's neighbors recommended this place.

I have a caramel interior so it's darker than Silverstone but still quite light (lighter than amaro brown). I think 35% maybe the sweet spot. I will probably stick with Huper since he was able to get it.

Can you share how much you paid? Thanks

25% would be the sweet spot IMO.

Using the template for the 5 series will work on the M5. Same Windows

Went with 25 since 35 looked light when we put film to the glass. It seemed not too dark in the partial demo. But now that it's done, it's a bit darker than I thought. Pictures attached.

Not sure if I want to keep it - seems too dark.

Looks great. Drive it for a few weeks and it will grown on you. 35 is too light It's almost pointless to tint .. Lol
