New Engine? Drive Train Malfunction?
Hello everyone. My wife purchased a used BMW M5 in Muscat, Oman two weeks ago and this past weekend the car broke down saying drivetrain malfunction while sitting in traffic. The car had 62,000km on it and was barely driven by the previous owner, only on weekends for the past 4 years. He had it always services via BMW. When he purchased the car it had a perfomance upgrade done in Dubai. My wife took it in for service where they ran diagnostics and are telling her that 5th cylinder is completely malfunctioning and that she needs to replace the engine!!! Does this sound right??? I can't understand how an engine with such little usage, can have a piston malfunction and ruin the cylinder under low compression?
Has anyone else here have any experience as I do not trust the mechanics in Oman. Their idea of fixing everything in this country is to replace it when it breaks. If anyone has ideas please let me know. |

Also need to make sure plugs are gapped appropriately for the tune, if indeed it is the spark plugs. There's a few threads on the topic under the tuning section.
