M5 Driving Modes Q's
I finally got a decent drive in a M5 today, it was a 2014 CP version in silver and black..
I was just wondering about the various driving modes based on the buttons next to the gear lever as to what they exactly do. The suspension and steering, OK pretty self explanatory, but what about the button with the Speedo symbol. What does it do? When i was driving, and pressing it, i couldnt tell a difference? I believe the button with the increasing rectangles below the lever is for the Transmission shift quickness, correct? then there was the one which was for ESP or the traction control....when i pressed it the squiggly lines appeared on the dash and the MDM symbol?? Then when i held it down just the squigglys...I assume all nannies were off thanks for explanation....clearly this car is more technologically advanced then mine.. |

Drive it around in the different Throttle, Suspension, Steering, and DCT modes - you will figure it out and pick it up quickly. Honestly best thing to do is real the manual. You have a paper book version in your glove or trunk or wherever, and you have a electronic version in the iDrive. What car did you own before this? The M5 is not a car you can hop into and drive. It's not like an average car. You need to know certain things. So read the manual.

Still important points, nonetheless. Casually turning MDM on and being unfamiliar with this car can end poorly.

You can definitely tell the difference in throttle response in first gear when in efficient versus sport plus. Try letting off the gas in first in sport plus and hitting the throttle and you will buck like a bull in heat.

You can enter manual/user-selected gear mode by either tapping either paddle, or by tapping the gear selector to the right.

first put it in sport, then hold it down for a few seconds and the complete esp is off...then there is no interference from the cpu and u can drift like chris harris
though...someone did say that traction control can be off in DYNO mode....im not completely sure how that diffferes from the esp function in the manual when pressing the esp buttons it says that in the sport and esp off modes it essentially allows the car to have its full torque and power capability |

I have tried to turn off all traction and stability systems on my AMG's. Neither the S65 or S63 have a full DSC off. Kind of strange, mostly annoying.
