Road trip
We took a little road trip and decided to drive the F10. We started in Huntington Beach, CA and headed towards Route 66 around Riverside.
From there we stayed on Route 66 and drove towards Mojave desert, Joshua tree and ended our trip in Oatman, Arizona. Once again I am convinced that this is the best all around car right now. It was luxurious for most part and when I needed it to be crazy it turned into a beast within a second. We were cut off pretty bad by a modded new Subaru STI and apparently he did not know the capability of the M. I proceeded to murder him and he wouldn't give up after I crushed him more than 10 times. Other than that it was pretty civilized. That is not counting several 160mph pulls on completely empty Route 66 in the middle of the desert. Overall, the car got about 21 mpg, gas tank cover popped open on the rough piece of Route 66, I got a cruise control warning and it disconnected by itself, and paid $5.35 per gallon in a really boring town of Needles, CA. After 8k miles the oil is still full, it chirps tires at 60mph and I am completely in love with it. What a great road trip car. Enjoy the pics

He really got on my nerves by squeezing himself on a two way lane to avoid head on collision and pushed me to the emergency lane. After it cleared up he tried to get away, but my car ripped so hard that the tires chirped at 60 and the dog that was in his carrier attached to the seat belt launched all the way back to the trunk.

Awesome! I agree this is probably the best road trip car out there.
So cool to see a car with German plates on US roads. Wish we could do that on East Coast but here they give you temporary plates if you don't have a new plate.

The car looks so much better with German plates though. I know I am pushing my luck.

Someone I know has been driving with tourist plates on East Coast since last December with no issues...yet.
Is an M5 a better road trip car than, say, a 750i?? |

It depends on the road trip. I have taken few road trips with the '13 740i and 750i and yes it is very luxurious and big, but the excitement piece, engine roar and being able to throw the car around twisties is definitely not there.

Awesome report... thanks for sharing!
First, that pic in front of the saloon is stunning. Really shows off the complexity of Azurite Blue. Second, that subaru's tag is pretty hilarious... especially when you take him to school over-and-over. Finally, I am now inspired to keep my German plates on for as long as I can once my car arrives... can't wait! |

Fantastic pics. And I couldn't agree with you more. Lux sedan when needed, beast of a car at the push of a button. Way to stretch its legs too...lots of room out there

The car had a FMIC, it was loud, smelled (no cats) and had a externally gated turbo.

I really like early STIs until people screw them up, same deal here...
Love the pic with the car parked in the middle of the desert road hard to get an original car shot! Cheers stu
