Next Generation
Nextbgen M5 will weigh 400lbs lighter and will see HP/Torque both be 600+. It will kill the competetion and set a new weight target for the segment. Bmw grew a little stake lately but you'll see my fellow bimmer owners. If the next gen 7 series will weigh less than the current F10 5 series you will see how this will trickle down to the m5 and m6.
Another thing, I hate hybrids. Thanks |

But, all of your post is nothing more than a guess. I don't even think BMW has figured out exactly what the final version of next M5 will be at this point. Not sure how you have. Fun to speculate though. |

That would be awesome, but where are you getting this from? Every next gen M car has been bigger and heavier than the previous model. Albeit, the new M4's weight savings over the prior M3 was what, 5%? I'm curious how the M5 will lose >400lbs (~10%) and retain the quality of a performance, luxury, land-barge 4 seater theme. They'll need to change more than to a CF drive train and rigid Alum chassis. Perhaps get rid of all the leather, back seats, electronic motors, iDrive, AC and alcantara and then you'll have the CTS-V I just don't see how BMW is going to do that other than a complete change from current and past modus operandi. I think we should be preparing ourselves for performance hybrid tech, then electric. The new BMW...

The next generation M5 will be lighter than the current M5 because it will be based on the new 30up platform, just like the next generation 7-er -- lots of CFRP, magnesium, aluminum and high-strength steel. That should make it at least 250 lbs lighter. That's just a guess based on the reports in the German mags that the new 730d will be "up to 170 kg lighter."
The next gen 5-er is already being driven on the German autobahn (videos on YouTube). It will follow the new 7-er by a year and then the new M5 probably two years (or less) after that. Rumor has it that AWD will be available as an option and that makes sense considering that the competition is mostly AWD already. |

this would be awesome. under 4000 lbs and over 600 hp. and AWD. that would be seriously fast. its going to need it to be faster than the new cts-v. of course it goes without saying it will slay the cts-v in terms of looks; luxury and design. we wont see the next gen m5 for what ? at least 2 more years? |

I'm not certain, but wouldn't the AWD option add additional weight to the car?

The pros and cons of RWD vs AWD will come into play here. If there is an obvious advantage of the optional AWD setup, it will be in launch control as well as rapid acceleration from full stop. |

As much as people hate on AWD I love 1/4 and 1/2 mile head to head and I will be placing an order as soon as it's available.
I say the car will be 4150 lbs.

If they wanted, they could seriously take the next gen M6 to a higher level weight- and handling-wise, reduce length, etc. It is just a two-seater and if done right, has the potential to take on some of the smaller 3k lbs p-cars. I doubt many of us will complain and it might even stop the bleeding from //M to P.
