Executive Demo

Would you consider a purchase or lease if the deal was right?

I would. Still new title, etc.. I've done it before with good results. I actually try to find demos, they're usually totally optioned out, and you get a Mega discout.

My fear is that an executive demo is actually a performance center car.

I would not. If you don't own it, you beat the hell out of it. Probably not well broken in. Maybe ok for a short lease?

def could be

OP just ask seller to give you full background of the cars history. It will state if its from Performance Center or not. There are some great exec cars available from time to time and you can save a lot of money if the dealer can get them for a good price.

Performance Center cars never have Full Merino Leather though, so unless it has Full Leather I would pass. But that's just me.

I would lease it for 3 years. Everything would be covered under warranty. Just make sure the tires have good tread on them. I definitely would not purchase a demo for the reasons people already stated.

I would absolutely consider it. Its under full warranty and you will get a killer deal. Sure it may have been driven hard but isnt that what these cars were designed for? Arent you going to drive it hard?

If you have your eye on one and decide not to consider please post a link to it so other members could look at it. Thanks

I understand your hesitance for a performance center car and you should be able to find that out. You should definitely be able to get a great deal though. Having gone there, I know that they take really good care of the cars and service them like a pit crew. On the other hand, I thrashed the cars I drove for 2 days, but with the rev limiter it's awfully hard to do damage. I'm not sure how often they change them out either. Also, the cars I drove were not optioned very well. But, if you do buy it off of a BMW dealer and are the first owner you still have the same full warranty.

I believe DEMOs can be manager cars, performance center cars and press cars. My 2010 e60 m5 and my 2013 boxster s were both demos and I did receive great discounts on them. I also could not have been any happier. Both were fully loaded. However, without the car having been titled I do not believe they can be CPOd which is a bit of a downer. You can find plenty of savings on the used car market too if you take the time to research and for peace of mind (provided you find the right seller). Good luck!

IMO, if you are willing to pickup a demo, you might as well pick up a second hand M5 (with reasonably low mileage, no accidents/damage, in good condition) that has already depreciated.

Roughly speaking a 12 month old M5 should be somewhere around 25% depreciated.

If you plan on trading in your car after a year or two, this would be a smart move as the first owner is taking most of the hit for you.

Demo cars are always floored while they're cold and repeatedly beaten on. If you end up getting a demo, you should get eyes on the cars history. Most important, as stealth and golfer mentioned, making sure it's not a performance center car.

By the time my lease is up, my M5 will have 12,000mi on it after 2 years. Inside still smells new and has no signs of wear. Interior condition is somewhat indicative of how well the original owner treats the car. Finding an M5 like this would be a good move.

Car is optioned to the max with exception of full merino and ceramics. $3K down, $980 monthly. Monte Carlo Blue. I'm not interested as the color is a bit too "loud" for my liking as a daily driver, and I want full leather.

Don't have a link, but the car is at Patrick BMW, Schaumburg, IL

I attended a VIP event at the Ultimate Drive in Arcadia last month. We had track time in the new M3, then they offered us street drives alone. Choices were M5 Comp pack, M6 Gran Coupe Comp Pack, Alpina B7, and a 650i Covert. Lets just say these cars were being put through the ringer !!! That being said, if you are leasing, and will not have it after the warranty expires, it should be Ok if the deal is great.
