The end of era and the advent of a new age?

When the X6M came to market, I could not believe BMW M could build such a thing. Sacrilege! 6 months later I took it around a track and was so impressed I bought one.

I say bring on the AWD M5 and make it something special. I hope it blows the socks of the vaunted GTR AWD drivetrain.

BMW should take lessons from Poursche and Ferrari though and not forget the development of its rear driven products. They really need to refine the power delivery to the rea wheels of the line and exiting corners. Better e-difs please!

Are you sure this is a M5 and not just a M550xd?

This is interesting.

Personally I think BMW will offer all-wheel drive as an option because their competitors offer.

But there is an important issue of which has not been said a lot and is the subject of car engine.

If we compare the figures of acceleration 550i vs M5 there is a detail:

550i :::::::: 0-60 mph ::: 4.5 seconds.
550ixDrive :: 0-60 mph ::: 4.3 seconds.
M5 :::::::::: 0-60 mph ::: 4.3 seconds (Manual) and 4.2(DKG) Drivelogic.

I think BMW is crucial needs and working in engineering M5 4.4l engine, acceleration figures in this table are ridiculous for the M5, comparing against his younger brother the 550i.

If coldly analyze the acceleration data we can see that the 550i X Drive that features all-wheel drive is faster than 550i RWD and it almost equals the acceleration of M5.

What results in better engineering applied to 550i X Drive AWD all-wheel drive.

This is a clear advantage over rear wheel drive models.

BMW M5 should endeavor because faster in acceleration figures 0-60 mph.

I do not understand why BMW does not change to a lighter and more refined as a V8 engine of 4.0 liters of displacement of greater technology than the old 4.4-liter.

"BMW has to change the engine to produce more torque is the key to the M5 is faster."

I would expect the following figures for this car:

New generation 5 Series.

I suggest this engine:

New V8 4,0 liter:

: 450 HP/470 FT ( 550i and 550i XDrive)
: 550 HP/530 FT (M5 and M5 X Drive)
: 595 HP/560 FT (M5 Competition Package and M5 CP X Drive)

2016 550i : : 0-60 mph : 4.3 seconds.
2016 550i XDrive : 0- 60 mph : 4.2 seconds.
2016 M5 : : :: 0-60 mph. : 3.8 seconds.
2016 M5 X Drive : : : : 0-60 mph : 3.7 seconds.
2016 M5 CP : : : 0-60 mph : 3.7 seconds.
2016 M5 CP X Drive : 0-60 mph : 3.6 seconds.

I mention this because I personally interested in my car is fast. For me it is more important to the work of a refined engine as the 550i, the M5 does not currently meet the figures of acceleration of a car should have. The difference between 550i and M5 acceleration of 0.1 seconds is minimal when you consider that there are 110 HP difference between the two models.

If you look at it from just the right angle, it almost looks like they were making an xDrive M5 wagon!

It didn't make sense at 500hp and it sure as hell doesn't make sense at 600 either, considering the G30 will be lighter.

Come on folks ... they're trying to compete with Audi and AMG ... not Dodge Hellcat! 600hp RWD is nice in theory ... until you have to drive it everyday and the traction control keeps cutting off the throttle. It's annoying.

Snow and ice handling is not the only reason to make AWD cars ... it's more about balance, power distribution ... and in this case, market share. They're loosing a lot of ground to Audi and AMG in that regards.

Dew it BMW. Deeeeew it!

That car has definitely been around the block. The underside looks like it has 75,000 miles on it other than that newer part. I love the zip tie holding whatever that loop is. Glad I'm not the only one who uses them for a quick fix!
That zip tie is holding back what appears to be a driveshaft safety loop. If the axel breaks and it falls down it will get in the way of the control arms. That would be no Bueno.

Rwd cars have that so a broken u joint doesn't pole vault the car.

I guess they are concerned about the power available and what the axels can handle.

You may be right on the Porsche turbo, lambo, and Ferrari which are all exotics and in a different class, but saying no one complains about Subaru and the GT-R is far from the truth. I'm coming from the Subaru would and got rid of them because there is some nasty understeer (terrible interiors too) and if you want decent performance you have to get a good chunk of mods. The GT-R is fast 0-60...but that's about it, thing is so overrated and heavy which clunky noises and little refinement. The Motor Trend crew was really not liking the Nismo version much. The fact is AWD systems add weight in all the wrong places and unless you have a very good RWD biased system you get gobs of understeer.

I used to hate the idea of an xDrive Sport Car until I took my 640xDrive GC to Breckenridge. It loves carving the turns and behave like a RWD, with more confident on snowy surface. xDrive oversteer into corner, unlike Audi's system.

My F80 M3 is RWD, with enough torque to rip the rear tires at 2nd -3rd gears. Traction is an issue as the M division adds more power.

But I agree, please make it optional or BMW will lose a lot of M fans. AWD = more weight and more parts to break.

Look forward to more real information on the actual G series before I decide if it's for me. But the reality is you gotta get that power down!

The M5 does come with a ski bag between the rear seats standard. Just sayin'! Who wouldn't want to drive it up a mountain pass on the way to carve some turns!!

Right now, I wouldn't even consider taking it skiing. I'd never make it home alive!

The m5 is useless from a stop in its current form. It has to have AWD because of the traction issues.

As blasphemous as this looks I think it only makes sense. Next gen will be well over 600 hp and that just is useless on 2 wheels. Give it a good rear bias and 9-10 people (the non Bimmerpost ppl) won't even notice.
