Ceramic Coat On DwnPipes
So im gonna get my downpipes ceramic coated but wanted to ask you guy's 1st
The finish on them now is kinda like a chrome w a gold'ish hue (msr) and the ceramic guy says he has a hi temp black (2000K degrees) and a metallic silver almost chrome (1700k degrees) and im a lil scarred that i may tip the dealer off to my use of the aftermarket lol But then i think if i put em in the way they are they'll clearly see that they are not stock as the stockers are like a dirty dull silver right? So wtf do i just do black ceramic and stop being a pussy about it ? Really just not looking to get flagged ona car w less than 1500 miles lol thanks Neil |

The difference between stock and aftermarket catless is very apparent. You can't hide them as any novice at bmw would know that they aren't stock.
Yes, just put them on, you'll love the turbo whistle |

Has anyone on here been flagged for downpipes? They can't flag for anything.

Is there an instance where downpipes are NOT obvious? You can gut a stock set, but they'll know as soon as they start the car.

Impossible to hide the smell btw.
Tune, DP's best bang for your buck but always a price to pay to play the game. I personally feel DP's to a certain extent are less of an issue than say intakes or filters that affect what comes in the front-end and to the engine versus the backside exit of fumes; IMO less variables on the backside. my .02

Outside of looks, is it necessary to coat the DPs or wrap them if someone's not tracking the car? Any risks to keeping them as is (uncoated, unwrapped) w respect to the wiring etc.?

I would get them coated or wrapped. Really no reason not to. Radiant heat is the enemy so anything one can do to alleviate it should be priority. The cost is small compared to the cost of the downpipes. Just got mine back from Swaintech where I had their white lightning coating applied. $120 plus shipping was my bill.

I think the point in 1st place mainly is to protect the rear 2 cylinders from catching any heat coming off the very hawt DP's , which has happened and caused issues for some i believe..
As per the smell / fume / odor i would say it safe to assume it def won't rid the issue but def will help i think maybe someone w coated ceramic Dp's will chime in w real world impressions plssss.. i should be dropping mine off tomo to be done. Neeil |
