Probably a stupid question...

... but, if I switch car on, leave in neutral, press accelerator, it seems revs are limited to 3,000.

Is this just a safety / protection feature until the engine is warmed up?

I have thought that was the case also. However this one time I took the car out for about 30 miles and when I came back home, it still revved to 3000 rpm on neutral. Go figure.

It's also very emasculating when someone wants to hear it and you have to wait 5 min for the whole cold start process to finish. Even when the engine is hot and you leave it for 30 min and come back it still won't let you rev it up.

No such thing on 6MT, just clutch it and redline it.

Thats funny ? .. I did a software update to my Media system the other night ..(there cant be a connection) and had the car running for half an hour or so in the garage with the door open. On completion I thought I'd rev the motor a few times to enjoy its bark before going to bed, and it wouldnt let me do it no matter what settings I tried ? but I know it used to let me do that ? I had consumed some red wine before hand though
