Garage List
The seats look really great.

Numbers seem a bit underwhelming. Makes me doubt it will beat the E63S in straight line at least. Not that this matters if it handles well.

Not what i need. I'm a highway warrior. No track days or quarters. Awd or an extra 45 hp from the factory are meaningless for me. I'll stick with f10, save the bucks, and wait for the 2022ish replacement.

Shifts seem pretty quick for the new tranny, but hard to tell how responsive they are to his input.

But as usual with BMW, I'll wait till all the bugs are worked out in the first year and opt for the comp pack in year 2/3.

Impressive they got the weight down with awd but I'm going to pass mainly because of the auto trans and who knows how that awd will be able to handle a tuned up S63TU

The rod part # for the G30 M550 (N63R) is the same as the F-series... so I would assume this carries on to the new M5 as well - so same weak points.

What really puts me down is that they are using the same engine as the current F10 with maybe upgraded turbos to push out a bit more power, that just pisses me off so bad. It ruins the whole aspect of a new gen M5. Why not go back to a v10 and add turbos V10tt would be a big seller! Or maybe even something else . I've owned the last 2 previous M5 models BMW put out but I think I'm done this time , my next car will definitely not be an M5 again . E63s AMG is what I'll look into next .

On the other hand, our cars may not lose as much resale value after all...

Unfortunately BMW has lost creativity, and the M clealy is losing it's specianess in my opinion. I told my dealer depending on the final product, and it's not special my M4 could be my last M car. I sold my M5 and tried the M4 just for a change, and it's a interesting car .......the turbo thing has just not appealed to me that much. AMG is making some mean nasty engines that sound really good. Good to have choices I have a year go make a choice!

Ding ding ding! Winner winner chicken dinner! And let's not forget a whole new level on ECU protection and encryption for the F90 M5 motor, meaning tuners are going back to square one if they try to tune the F90 M5.

Rods are definitely the weak point though. I am guessing same for piston heads as well.

This! I'm guessing is because of the electrical parking brake again though.

Im thinking of building my next car or getting a Lambo. The next M5 offers nothing new for me besides the potential to beat a stock GTR at a stop light. Less curb weight will be nice for the track but then again who consistently tracks a 4,000lbs+ family sedan?

Had they developed an all new engine with some real race car properties like a higher redline then I would have probably been excited. They didn't even attempt to increase fuel efficiency or decrease emissions for CAFE standards which leads me to believe that their decision to use the S63tu again and change a few things was purely a money saving measure for them. Shame on BMW M.

What's interesting with all the HP wars it appears design, and appealing designs are disappearing in this segment. 4 door cars are expensive upfront, and not worth a good paper weight in the end. Hell a turbo Panamera 180k with options and base it 100k, and he Turbo is not 80k more. Considered a Audi R7, but can't get pass the back. Will enjoy my RS, and my Escalade until someone really good comes vs just tolerating it like my M4(:

I want to love it ........every time I get in my RS I'm like damn this is fun. I just need more practical car that makes me say damn. Will check out the AMG E class. Did considered AMG S coup but that think is a boat.

I agree dude, I agree. Of course there is a way around it, but it's just what the M550i uses and M is too lazy put a real caliper on the back.

For a little bit more utility, you may want to wait for the upcoming AMG GT 4-door. It won't be as much as a Panamera Turbo but it'll be more than an M5 and it will hold value better I am sure. It won't have as much comfort or space as an M5 though.

What we really need is a sub 3,800lbs 4-door sedan with M5 level of power (600hp) and the chassis size of an E39 M5. Oh yeah and with an optional Manual that gets more R&D than a DCT integration into the drive train. I'm talking Porsche level of Manual Tranny smoothness. That would be awesome. It would have to be devoid of all that tech crap though, like lane departure warning and gesture control, who needs that?! If I only had the money to start my own car company!
