just Picked it Up

Finally got my 2013, F10 yesterday. Had an initial problem when a sensor caused a warning message about constraint system before I even got in the car. Great start! I thought oh no, I flew to Toronto just for this and I am not going to get it. They solved the problem by swapping the seat out with another identical M5. Creative and effective. Took less than an hour.

Anyway, first impression is that this car drives much differently than my previous M5. No excitement!! Faster, no doubt but so smooth it is hard to tell. DCT very smooth and better than SMG but way less engaging. More luxurious. Very complicated. I am sure I will get to love his baby but I am glad I kept my M6 cab in order to get some excitement.

This M5 seems to be aimed at someone like me. Older (62) and probably looking for a luxurious fast ride. i hope they don't lose the excitement though. After all this is supposed to be the car for drivers, right?

Congrats on the new ride. That was my feeling about the car, sneaky fast but so smooth! If you don't pay attention the 100 mph mark appears under the speedo needle before you realize it. The seeming complication will vanish once you get used to the controls. It's certainly too heavy for a razor sharp track car, but I'm hoping once I get used to the car's response under higher G loads it will be fun for the occasional track day. And I'm sure there will be suspension pieces available eventually for those who want a little more track worthy car.

Congrats Danmar.

I had similar (worrisome) initial reactions when I started driving my M5. But with a little time, I am realizing that I do love the car, but that it is different than what I expected.

Do the 2 day M driving school.
Unfortunaltey at this point, you have no idea what you car is capable of.
I think there are about a dozen people that would agree with me (including some that went through the Europeans Delivery process as well).

No excitement? Wait until you mat the throttle in traffic - you will start looking for a safe place to land.

This is the exact reason why I sold my F10 M5, it seemed boring to me. Sorry just my honest opinion. I'm sure everyone has different views...

^this. Exactly. These cars have so much to offer...you just need to get out there and push them - legally of course

Thanks for the responses. We did ED last time an it was great but getting it registered in Canada was a real pain. I think they have improved the process. But now that we are retired and travelling extensively most of the time, I just wanted to get it here.

I spent some more time in it today but still mostly on city streets. I am liking it more and more. i am sure it will be exciting enough for an old guy like me. Getting more comfortable with the "system". the Idrive really has improved since the last M5. Certainly more bang for the buck but still not as connected as previous M cars. Inevitable probably. No regrets.

I doubted when he said.

1. he got so much discount (like $7000 wan't it?) in Toronto for the new ordering vehicle

2. ordered car on Sept 2012 and getting it now

3. I asked the dealership name and he just answered "very big dealership in Toronto"

Once he uploads his car (of course with his Ontario plate without numbers) well then stupid me i would say...

only young guys play those stupid games. I doubt he's making it up, and even if he is who cares.

The discount is about right. You couldn't get a deal because you reek of desperation to buy the car.

i'm not playing. The issue for me is I'm not smart enough to know how to attach a picture. And besides it's childish. You would just say I took a picture of someone else's car. All because you didn't like my previous posts.

Congrats on the car. Save final judgments until after break-in.

Enjoy it..

Thanks, and I will. Drove it some more yesterday in crappy weather, liking it more but would offer these further observations. Suspension seems softer than previous M5 which I drove mostly in " soft" mode. I am driving the F10 in Sport + and it seems fine. Comfort mode is too soft for me. The shift paddles are smaller and travel less than the old ones. This seems to provide less "engagement" when shifting. Finally, the sound is pretty lame in comparison to the E60. Anyway, I will withhold final judgement. Most other aspects are certainly superior. Won't drive it for the next month as am in Arizona driving the M6.
