Cat vs No Cat

I know I'm going to get some hate for what you're about to read, but here's my thoughts anyway....

So I don't get the whole "Let's go catless for some extra power"
Some reasons to remove:
1. More power
2. Cooler Exhaust
3. Louder Exhaust

Some reasons to not remove:

1. Won't pass any emissions test (I know "My State don't care so I'll do it")
2. For some...louder Exhaust
3. Gas Smell fumes (I stink like an old fart getting out of my catless Firebird)
4. Sucks environmentally speaking
5. While it's an easy mod, there's other ways to make power.
6. Your kids will have 3 ears.

Thoughts.....don't beat me up too bad

so it sounds like you're trying to persuade people not to go catless?

If you don't want catless, who cares? buy a catted set?

You're partially right. I'm not Mr. Greenpeace, but there is a reason for catalytic converters. So why give your kids asthma for 25 HP...
I see so many folks doing this to their daily drivers, which is honestly a little irresponsible...again I'm not the green saint, and I like extra HP too, but not by blowing out raw exhaust fumes to the tune of "I don't care about my environment, cause it won't affect me"

you're giving me mixed signals, but it sounds like you kinda care about the environment. So in this case, sell your 8 cylinder, tax guzzling machine.

So I knew this was coming... ...I guess it's either or? Can't have a clean V8? All I'm saying is it was made to be clean, even as a V8.

I think six dolphins and a polar bear died in the time it took me to read this thread. I don't think a few enthusiasts cutting their cats off will melt the polar ice caps.

If it were only a few. So many people do this as a relatively cheap mod, not considering the additional burden placed on the environment. You gotta start somewhere, even if it's only saving 6 dolphins and a polar bear.

There is marginal difference on a tuned car going catless. Unless you are pushing 700+whp, don't bother.

Even at the 800whp level I saw very little different between high flow (200 CEL) and catless. Except there was no smell when catted.

I did mine specifically for the sound and for the smell. No check engine light here either.

I recently switched from AMS catless to Fabworx catted. The reasons for doing so were:

To get rid of the smell. You have to sit in your car for a good 20 seconds so that your cabin doesn't smell like fumes when you open the door.
Quiet down the exhaust a bit
More low end torque
After installing my catless downpipes the blowoff from my MSR intakes was non existent since there was no back pressure. Now with the cats they sound amazing again.

I do miss the exhaust note of being catless mixed with my Switzer full exhaust, but the car feels much better now, car doesn't smell like poison, and I got my MSR sound back.

Can you elaborate on how turbine backpressure affects blowoff when there is no blowoff valve - I don't get it...

Not sure what you're asking me. When I say blowoff I mean the sound the intakes make when you roll into boost and let off, people on here call it the "whoosh" sound. When I went catless that sound went away almost completely. Now that I have cats again the "whoosh" sound is back.

It's not about me getting a bicycle. It's about doing the right thing. Catalytic Convertors serve a purpose. That's not fiction. Catless has it's place on a racetrack, but not in daily traffic. This isn't 1962 when there were several million less vehicles on the road. Technology has come so far to reduce the emissions to a minimal fraction of what they were back then, only to have folks want the 20 to 30 hp more instead....doesn't make sense to me.
Not trying to create hate...just wondering...why?

Why buy an expensive car? Why buy a 4000 square ft house when 2500 will do? Why not give away savings to charity? Why not carpool everyday? Why not move next door to the office? Why go to national parks and leave a 'footprint'? Why eat more than you need?

Why? For selfish reasons.

Just my opinion
