I take it there are no issues from the engine by removing the resonators?
Are they there to purely change the exhaust note, it wont upset the ECU by removing? |

You should do a youtube search for resonator removal on the Benzes- some good sounds.

I'm thinking of deleting the resonators, removing the wadding in the mufflers and putting straight 'Y' pipes in replace of the perforated baffles. How do you think this will sound?

1.How much total cost? 2.How did you do it? Details please! It shouldn't affect warranty or lease? I can't believe that resonators are there only for noise reduction or should I say for fun reduction! ! Any other possible functions! May I ask how it doesn't drone when M5 with resonators and with valves open does have some drone to my ears! BTW I don't mind what I am hearing and if this is drone bring it on baby ... hahahaha .. Joking Thank you |

Awesome, and I cant believe my thread still lives. Whats ironic is I never did this on either of my S63tu cars. Now I know what I will do if I go that way. I have done this on all my AMG TT cars and even did it on my RS7 and the sound gains are strong. @soooma Its a rather easy muffler shop job: rack it cut the stock resonators out straight pipe the gaps where the resonators were done My muffler shop (well known for welds) charges me 150 dollars each time I do this. I have never had a dealer issue with this regarding a warranty.

Thanks Buddy! it is a lot louder in person with the exhaust pop.

2. Vic explained it pretty well below but they saw off the two resonators in the center of the exhaust and they replaced it with welding a thiner straight pipe with no exhaust chamber holes to reduce sound and clear sound. Will post pictures of my car on the lift and the resonators inside look so you can see the chamber holes inside. its also some minor weight savings. haha I do not know why it does not drone. But when at 3000 rpm I flow it and let go you hear from sexy drone. But not just regular driving its like stock Quote:

Its a 150 dollar job to remove and another 150 to add back if you are worried about the 3rd party inspector getting under your car at lease term (which they never do).

Hi..contemplating doing the same but slightly confused
Resonators are the centre silencers or the boxes that the tips attach to as colleague had rear boxes ( where exhaust tips are attached) and also the centre resonators (silencers) and car sounds pretty loud but not too deafening. Has anyone removed all 4 and any issues from removing the centre resonators and replacing with straight pipes. Also presuming car has 2 cats on each side can one of the cats be removed without any errors being displayed.. Thanks |
