Wish we got the RS6 platform here in the US, awesome machine. BMW of course is my preference but that AWD impressed.

Have the rs7 and m6, so no bias here. I absolutely love the Quattro. I launched in the rain today and it still pulled like a mofo. M6 would have bogged or spun out... Lol.

They are all like lead balloons, the finacials are not why we buy these cars - we would be made to 'invest'!

Only cars to 'make' money are Porsche GT3s and RS's and Scudarias etc the rest just need to be seen as a expnsive hobby!

The RS6 Avant makes me feel all funny when I see one. I am not a fan of "performance" Audis as they are not involving and particularly exciting to hoon, but when it comes to sheer presence, noise and acceleration the RS6 and RS7 got it waxed.

Audis v BMW

I have owned a slew of Audis. Obviously you don't by cars as an investment. However, I have a hard time paying top dollar for a VW product that will be worth virtually nothing in 5 years. In addition - quality is suspect. How many "classic" Audis do you seen on the road? None.

Glad the OP likes his RS6. I hope he leased it....

... how many classic Audis - 1000's back to the early 70's models, personally I have owned 5 ur quattros from 81 to 88 and 4 S2's. They were all solid and reliable and great fun. I think the problem is when some of the 'stupid and thick people' in the US desided to buy Audis in the early 80's and stamped on the throttle instead of the brakes and crashed- through no fault of Audi but the press and public there wrongly savaged them and almost drove Audi out of the market- they are only now recovering ground.

They make a great product across the globe- I may even swop out my M5 for a RS6 wagon, it will be great to have some traction and a great interior again!!

I intensely dislike the plastic across the top of the RS6 and RS7 dash, it looks like it belongs in a 1 series, A1 or A class. In BMW world you get leather as an option on the 3 series and up which makes a massive change to the overall ambience in the interior and is an absolute requirement in my mind.

The other issue with the RS6 is the massive amount of torque steer and heaviness the 4wd system creates by hanging the entire engine out in front of the gearbox. There is a bit of a write up here and a few pictures

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...356141-Details

Hopefully that link works, otherwise just search for RS5 gearbox - for whatever reason this is easier to find online than the RS6 or RS7 gearbox, but all north-south Audis are identical since the release of the previous gen A5 where they moved the front diff in front of the torque converter.

See that quite long shaft going to the other side of the gearbox, that creates a large amount of torque steer. I happen to drive a current generation facelift RS6 regularly and when getting a bit of a move on, the amount of movement to the left when coming onto the throttle due to torque steer when you're already near the limit is terrifying in a 560hp 2100kg car. Then when you lift off the throttle it jumps back to the right.

I've done about 2000 miles in it and it never gets any less terrifying if you're above 4000rpm and on a fairly narrow back road when passing people.

It is for that reason more than anything else that I'll never be in a fast Audi. The understeer and the constant feeling of heaviness at the front isn't all that pleasant either.

Note the BMW and Merc 4wd system has the front diff offset to the left of the car rather than the right but because it is next to the sump of the engine rather than beside the gearbox the offset to the side is significantly less. I've driven the X5M and X6M and they don't suffer from this much at all. I'm hoping that with a few tweaks that when a 4wd BMW M5 or whatever sedan comes out that this is further minimised, maybe a smart diff or suspension geometry could be setup to just about cancel it out. Also of course the 4wd system won't be sending much power at all to the front most of the time.

Audi ( VW ) vs BMW

Don't want to crap on anybody's parade here, or offend anyone but....

I've been driving all kinds of cars audis included, and my take on them is ( again that is my experience ) NOT the to say the least.
Yes I'm old enough to have the pleasure to own 5 or six of them different years, for a certain periods of time . Quattro was OK and all, but....... driving my Xdrive or my 4matic, makes me smile even more.
BMW and Merc is less expensive to drive over all, less issues with electronics.
Over all in my experience less headaches. Comparing Audi to BMW driving wise is like comparing axe to a samurai sword where you both will get the meat cut to pieces but only one will do it right. BMW is like that samurai sword, it will go through the corner like nothing else putting smile on your face time and time again. I'm like a child in the chocolate factory, always going for a better taste.
I'm not going back to Audi simply because I did not ever get the same pleasure out of driving ( even shopping ) anywhere.
I have the same arguments every so often with my customers, about their cars and how they are JUST the machines to get you from A to B, well I ask them did you ever drive BMW , Merc , Porsche ??? oh no, why should I .?....
There is nothing to talk about then.
We all have our preferences, and there is always going to be a better gun, bat, ball and so on. Audi has produced ssexy as hell cars that move like nothing else out there ( seen it drove it RS7 ) but there is something else that they have not yet figured out and it is that pure driving thrill that " I " do get out of my past and present BMW.
Now I'm getting my beer and getting to read some more posts !
Cheers !

Love the RS6 Avant. If they sold it here in the states, I'd be in one. Wasn't a fan of the current AMG wagon other than the engine, but assuming they bring one here with the next gen, that looks like what we'll end up getting. Or maybe Porsche's shooting brake.

Such a shame we have so few wagon options here.

So, I guess your F10 M5 isn't one of the fastest depreciating cars on the market?

I won't even get into AMG's....

I would drive an Audi RS6 Avant! Love the look, the sound and how practical it is. I always loved fast wagons! No Mercedes-Benz for me though never really was a fan of their interior and that's what I see the most while driving. The only thing is that I do prefer RWD over AWD for performance cars but on a wagon I guess AWD makes the most sense. Bottom line is if it came to the US most probably is I would probably own one! That's just my two cents!

Please don't compare any Audi product with MERCEDES or BMW.

My E28 M5 is worth more than it sold for in 1988.

I had a 2005 E55 AMG wagon with over 100k miles on it that I sold for 25k in 2014.

Audis are VWs.

I do like Audi's and being taken to Le Mans by them this year and having lavish corporate hospitality/chauffeur/heli rides etc made me think long & hard about an RS6 - but the interior feels cheaper than the M5 and I am still suspect over their QC, as in the only Audi I ever owned (an A4) I blew an engine, holed a turbo & the ECU went pop (albeit the engine & ECU were replaced under warranty).

ps Bentley's are VW's, as are Skoda & SEAT, etc
