F-10 brake indicators?

How accurate are the wear indicators and when do they come on showing brakes need replaced? Dealer wants $2200 for front disc and rotors sounds unreasonably high priced to me????????

That's ridiculous. Go buy the rotors yourself and then get yourself a nice new set of Cool Carbon Pads from ECS Tuning and have any competent Indy shop do the installation. For the front rotors I recommend the new Turner Motorsport rotors. You can also find them on ECS Tuning.

I did mine myself. The parts ran me $750ish for OEM discs and aftermarket pads. OEM pads are crazy expensive. Rockauto has really good performance pads, wear indicator wires etc for decent prices.

Where was the cost for $750 for the front pair? Lowest I have seen online OEM is $1000 for a pair.

Does your brake squeal less with the aftermarket pads?

It's a pain to take it into the shop so we have a tendency to try to stretch it out after the light comes on so by the time you finally get into the shop, the rotors are near or have already been damaged due to metal to metal contact. That's my experience with every BMW I have ever owned.

Typically when the sensors trip it's time to start looking for brakes. Depending on driving style you could have a good bit of driving left (if you're very light on the brakes) or you could be a few good stops away from metal on metal (if you hammer on them).

For the F10 M5 my front pad of choice are the Cool Carbons RPiM5 suggested. Lower dusting than stock while delivering fantastic braking performance. The TMS TrackSport Wave rotors are pretty fantastic as well (both in performance and looks).
