If anyone would like to know exactly when the California ARB Exec Order will be signed, here is the website:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/cert/cert.php#5
Click on the top left box under "PC_LDT_MDV_MDEV"
The next order which appears as NEW next to the BMW column will most likely be for the M5

My dealer says the M5/M6 will receive the EPA/CARB paperwork in early September, and he expects the cars to arrive at the dealership on September 10.

This is what I received from our dealer on Thursday, we didn't even ask him to look into it.

"I did contact BMW North America today to talk to them about the M5 release; I also have one that has arrived at the Port of Baltimore for another customer. And while they are still fairly vague I am getting the hint that they may be released sometime next week. I know that they have to have the CARB (California Air Resources Board) and the EPA Certification before they will release any new model from the Port to be shipped to the dealer and usually it is CARB who seems to drag their feet but it sounds like (I hope) somebody knows something if they were willing to hint that they think all will be released next week to the dealers. I’ll keep you posted on what I see happening as I see it."

Hopefully this is fairly accurate, but who knows...

I hope your information is correct... My dealer said he has a couple of cars arriving at the port late next week, but his information is that certifications won't be done until early Sep. and he was told to expect the cars Sep. 10. Strange how they all seem to get different information from BMW...

My uncle told me that BMW made a mistake and the actual release date is Sept 1, 2013...

BMW may receive the CARB paperwork in Sept, but I spoke to CARB directly and this is what I received:
"I asked the staff person that processes the BMW applications and the M5/M6 Executive Order should be signed within a week."
That was sent on the 16th.
BMW should know that the California ARB takes forever and planned accordingly. This is nothing short of unacceptable from a premium car company.

If I was waiting for a car, I would be pretty annoyed at a Florida car being delayed because of California regulations to which my state and none of the neighboring state subscribe.

If only the Southern states could separate from the bureaucracy that is the rest of the USA.

Not to be rude to everyone, but this sounds very questionable. I would have suspected that BMWNA would have had the new M5 and M6 models signed off on for CARB and whatever else when they brought the demo cars to the U.S. There were cars that were used to tour around the country for various PR events as well as the current cars that are already at the Spartanburg, SC Performance Driving Center and the "One Lap of America" event earlier this summer. As usual, we have all been told conflicting stories from our respective dealer centers - I expect the cars to be released this week. We shall see.

My dealer also emailed a representative of BMWNA, and they said they expect the cars to be released next week, hopefully we'll have them by the end of the week.......hope they're right!

Pretty sure that was tried once and then 'the south' was made 1-dimensional on the issue of slavery but all other states rights vs federal issues that also caused the act of separation were swept under the rug.

Not saying freedom from slavery wasn't worth having a war over to remove, but I am saying there were other issue involved that were equally compelling and that some of this government-in-the-pockets crap would have the original people that fought in the revolutionary war rolling over in their graves.

PS For those that get a little too fixated/sidetracked, I am NOT saying waiting on a car is an equivalent issue to a civil/revolutionary war or slavery. <--- the sigh is for the fact that I even have to say that....

Be careful with what the word 'compelling' means. I'm not going to highjack the original poster's thread for a CW debate. Feel free to PM me if you want some links to typical topics discussed US college/university history levels. Otherwise, Google will auto solve for you "reasons for the civil war besides slavery" when you start typing the phrase.

***

To the original topic, if BMW is going for a big bang approach on the cars then that may be their corporate strategy. But I think it is more likely that they may miss their Sept 1 target if they are relying on governments (state of federal) to abide by tight timetables. If they miss their dates and give this as an excuse, then I think it still reflects poorly on them for not identify this as a risk item and working to minimize/overcome the risk. They can't control the government process, but they can anticipate and buffer for delays.

I hope you each get your cars soon: looking forward to your posts and videos.

I don't understand the point of a coordinated release. What's the strategy behind it? This isn't a mass produced vehicle. In fact, I have quite a few buddies from Houston who say the new M5 is old news as they've spotted a few already in the area.
This is all the 535i guys who have got quad exhaust tips and debadged.

Wannabes.
