Shopping Around - Things to Look For
Hey Everyone,
In a serious error, I sold my 2015 334xi Gran Turismo when I got out of the Army/left Germany last year in favor of keeping my Ford Truck. I find myself missing having a car and I've seen quite a few deals on some higher mileage F10 M5s here in the DC area. I love the look of the F10s and a higher mileage car doesn't necessarily discourage me. Most of them are between 80,000-105,000 miles and aren't being offered by BMW dealers. I understand that there are some common maintenance problems associated with these cars, especially as they age. If the service records aren't available, what should I look at or listen for to identify potential issues? How challenging are these cars to work on? Are there recurring problems that have ridiculously complex procedures to fix? I do all the work on my truck and two BMW motorcycles and I'm a pretty decent mechanic, but I'm not interested in having to do some nonsense like pull the engine to fix something common (As an example, my diesel truck has weak torque to yield head bolts instead of studs and the fix requires pulling the cab). I'd love to get myself into one of these cars as long as it's the right one. Thanks in advance, Joe |
