Sakhir Orange leather after a few years

I went to look at this car yesterday and I was shocked that after 30,000 miles the leather looked as bad as it did.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-973848806.htm (hopefully the link works)

Picture 8 is the best picture they've taken but it doesn't really show the damage all that well, basically all of the colour has been worn away from someone getting in and out of it a lot.

Is this normal or maybe just the clothes this person wore combined with how they got in and out of the car?

Could people with SO leather show pictures of their drivers seat after a few years and similar or more miles on the car?

Just over a year with my SO and still looks great. I wipe down with Chemical Guys Leather cleaner and follow up with Leather Masters Leather Protection Cream every few months.

My guess is the owner of that vehicle not only neglected cleaning the seat but entered/exited that vehicle by using the side bolster as leverage. Regardless, of color that will destroy any leather. I'm diligent not to use the side bolster when I exit my car

I do not have SO but do have 30k of DD miles. I'll snap some pictures. I don't think color has anything to do with this. It's all about maintenance. I wipe my leather down with Zaino cleaner and conditioner probably twice a month. Keep it nice and soft.

Here are my seats ... Drives bottom seems loose since I just got up. Usually it's not so loose.

I just read that you said its faded. My cousin has SO and no fading and it's a DD. This car definitely looks warm and not maintained.

Garage List
2 years with SO and it still looks brand new.

The leather in that car was not maintained well and the glossy conditioner also adds a cheap/damaged look to leather.

I've had mines for two years as my dd and the leather is fine. I've never had any problems with how my leather looks on any of my cars. You just need to take care of it. I don't ever apply anything to it. I don't like that slick and shiny look on leather, although I'm sure that there are products that doesn't shine.

One thing to consider is climate and the amount of sun the car gets. My car is always garaged and the only time it gets long exposure to the sun is on drives and when it is parked while away. Nothing fades color more than the sun. This car is probably parked outside in the owners driveway and exposed to the sun a lot.

Thanks for that everyone. I'm going back to see it tomorrow and will take a few pics. It definitely isn't fade from sun, the top layer with the colour pigment in it has been worn away by clothing

Looks like it was wiped down with baby oil. Lol. Probably just needs somebody to clean it and treat it right.

Can't see much from the picture but it looks dirty. You will have stain transfer from jeans and dark clothes. That can be cleaned off with the right cleaner with ease.

I have 26k miles on my 2014 and the seats look new.. I clean and moisturizer them.

For me a bigger concern is the deformation of the seat cushion that is puckered at the back of the cushion. Looks like the stuffing has given out. Seats are easily refurbed these days and can be re strained etc.....but on a newer car it's a bit disappointing. Heat, sun and passenger weight will impact the material and couple that with zero care....

It is all about the care. I traded my M3 last Saturday after 4 years and 32K miles and fox red leather looked great. Kuni has it advertised now here but pictures rarely do justice with this color. I cleaned it about once a quarter to six months.

Yeah that looks horrible. If the previous owners didn't take care of the leather like that it makes me so wonder how they treated the car itself.

It almost looks like the previous owner was a big fella (or gal) and parked in places where he couldn't open the door all the way and had to s-q-u-e-e-z-e into and out of the car. Yikes, it's not good.

I can understand some wear and polish on the thigh bolster, but how did the shoulder get so worn?
