Squeak after engine/ignition shut off

Do any of you guys get a squeak from underneath the car after you turn the ignition off? It happens to me every time, at first I thought it was the suspension lifting as I got out of the car, but now as I open the door and havent gotten out yet I hear it. Its a single short squeak that almost sounds like the exhaust valve closing, but I dont always drive in Sport+ so not sure if its even open all the time.

Thoughts?

it might be the valve. I found it to be open even on comfort while i was on ED. Shortly after shutting down car I found it to be closed again.

I've always coincided that with the secondary parking brake.

When you shut the ignition off (second push) another brake, more of a parking lock, engages. even if you leave the car in neutral and shut the ignition completely off, Not engage the hand brake, then try to push the car it won't go anywhere because of the secondary parking brake. That is the squeak that you're hearing. Are there people that don't have this sound? I thought it was normal. Wtf...

Thats good enough for me - I actually noticed it a while ago but didnt mention it at my 1200 mile service, because I couldn't bear to let my car be away from me longer than for just the break in service.

All kidding aside, when it first started and I thought it was the suspension lifting as I got out, I started a diet.

I've never heard the secondary parking brake squeeking on and off before. Then again I don't hear a lot of stuff because of the straightpipes.

Old thread I know, but I've noticed this a handful of times now. Even my wife asked what it was last night.

Is this something that people are having addressed at the dealer?

It's not that. There is definately a short "squeal" noise coming from the engine compartment around 10 seconds after shutting off the engine. Shutting the car down and putting it into park makes a clunk, the parking brake also makes a distinctive sound. This is something different. I'm wondering it this is the turbo boost relief valve (do we even have them?) My theory would be that once the engine shuts down, the ecu relieves pressure still present in the manifold. ????

It's the valve on the mufflers

Thanks Tony. But definately not side bolsters or coming from the inside of the car. Sounds like coming from near rear axle on bottom of vehicle.

It's E-Brake

It's not the E-Brake making this noise, or the side bolsters, or the cooling system afterrun for the turbo's, or the door locks, or the parking pall for the transmission................etc. (These all make seperate distinctive sounds.)

Before shutting down your engine, roll your window down. The sound takes place roughly 3 seconds after shutdown and is a quick squeal. Reminds of sound that something would make that needs lubricating. It is definately coming from outside the car...either underneath the car..maybe the valves in the exhaust, or from the engine bay somewhere. Im going to look at the exhast valves tonight, otherwise think it could be the actuators on the turbos.

I bet it's the valve on the mufflers. Mine used to make this noise but has stopped since I wired the valves open.

I bet if you got a Toyota it wouldn't make any more noises.

Defo the muffler valves. Mine does it every time I get out after turning ignition off.

I might spray a little WD-40 on the hinge points of those valves once the exhaust cools down. Might not last long but will see what it does.

That is one thing I have definately noticed with this car.....OMG that exhaust gets hot! You can feel the waves of heat getting out of the car.
