Difference between M performance exhaust system vs M perf CF exhaust tips

Good day all,

Would anyone know how to tell the difference between a full M performance exhaust system vs just a normal exhaust with M performance CF tips?

Any advice is appreciated. Based on mdecoder.com, it states it is equipped with M performance exhaust. The records from BMW does show that it is a M performance exhaust, however, the original dealer sticker does not specifically say M performance exhaust like what I have seen before. It just says Carbon fiber exhaust tips.

Would anyone be smart enough to assist me?

An M5 f10 official performance exhaust is made in conjunction with Akrapovic. If you get down at the back of car and look at the boxes they should be chamfered or angled off at the bottom edges whereby on standard boxes they are just normal L edged. Hope that makes sense.

There were no OEM carbon fiber tips available for non-MPerformance exhausts. The CF tip sizing will not fit standard or Competition exhausts. The MPerformance exhaust is titanium in its entirety and came standard with titanium tips I believe, and the CF tips were additional (could explain the addition of the tips alone, as you mentioned).

Non-MPerformance exhausts have 2 or 3 dots (depending on standard vs Competition) imprinted about a half inch in size on the face of each muffler, while the MPerformance exhausts do not include these dots.

If you cannot see the Akrapovic logo on the mufflers themselves, check for 3 striped rings, formed via depressions indented into the titanium surface, going around each MPerformance muffler. Standard and Competition mufflers do not have these.

Please post pics if none of this matches what you are seeing.

So here are the pics. I guess it does say M performance mufflers. I can assume the whole system is Akrapovic / OEM M performance.

You have the M Performance mufflers with the upgraded CF tips, but its hard to tell beyond the clamp (in the 1st pic) if its the whole setup. I would bet its the whole exhaust, given the information you received, but from the picture we only can see up to the clamp. The whole setup would be titanium end to end.

yep, that's the whole exhaust. I had an Akra exhaust on my e90m3, it's a work of art!

Lucky you!
