Reg Plate Screwed into front bumper?!?!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So I bought a '14 M5 demonstrator from a Uk dealership in April. I've come to change the reg to a cherished one. Also with a smaller plate than standard

As i remove the front plate, I can see its been screwed into the bumper with 4 holes! (Two holes are behind the current plate) After seeing this I contacted the salesman, sent pics showing the mess. I get a reply saying, 'All I can suggest is use a normal size plate'

Am now waiting to speak to a manager.

But does anyone else have their reg plate just screwed into the front bumper?

edit: It seems because its 'used' (the only previous owner is the dealership itself! I've done 500miles since purchase) am getting brushed aside!

I doubt you will get much help from dealer.

There are really 4 options for this (in order of cost):
1) Replace the bumper
2) Patch repair and paint the bumper
3) Use a bumper plug
4) Go back to larger plate

My number plate is mounted on a big plinth, so god know what's under there, smaller plate fixed directly tot he bumper is a cleaner look.

All you can do is fill then sand and repaint.

Yeah most cars have previous screws into the bumper in various areas in most cases in the UK..
My current car which is not a m5 was used and is screwed to the bumper just to let you know..

HOWEVER I would have thought with the value of the car the dealer would have just used the sticky pads for the original plate. Then there is no damage to the bumper other than residue which can come off, and looks a lot cleaner as you can't see any screws.

Push for them to fix the bumper at the very least depending upon how recently you purchased and your relationship with the dealer.. But don't think they are obliged to do anything if I am honest

Otherwise use a usual sized plate, with sticky pads (usually looks a lot better imo) - that's the most cost effective

You can also use usmillworks.com
The plate attachment is used by the tow hook. No holes

thanks for the feedback guys. Seems like i'll be getting it repaired at my own cost, the dealer has been paid, their job is done I suppose! That's the attitude am getting

This cars' spec'd up price was £80,000, I didn't pay this( I paid high 50's!) but I never expected to see a reply with, 'put the standard plate back on' from the dealership, feels like a kick in the dick!! and not even acknowledging the fact that someone put 4 holes in the bodywork for something like a reg plate!

Relax...its peanuts

Firstly you may want to check that your new plates are legal. You don't want to get done for an illegal plate

Then the bumper....I guess its plastic so the holes can be welded and the repair blended in with a small air gun. It shouldn't cost a lot and is to all intents completely invisible.

For something so minor, I'd rather just pay and avoid fighting with anyone.

Just think of it as buying a used car and paying to have it detailed

Just buy two bumper plugs either already in your color or use touchup paint to paint some blanks. That should be fairly satisfactory from an aesthetic point of view.

Here they screw a plate holder to the bumper then have to by law pop rivet the plate to the plate holder so its not easy to remove.

Hey... look at this webpage... part 18... plate base. That'll cover your holes in the bumper... look OEM... and you can then attach you plate to that base.

Cheers
Craig

Hi wills

http://www.platesforcars.co.uk/

Not the cheapest, I just googled and went with the first one really. The plate itself measures 330x111mm. All letters and number's are road legal

Also ordered some bumper plugs, see how they go

I really think the bumper plugs will look great and will just blend in with the bumper.
