Little storage compartment door is broken

I ran some searches on this forum and the regular 5-series forum and found nothing on this.

I put my sunglasses in the little compartment to the left of the steering wheel. Tonight the latch broke. Clearly I can get this fixed under warranty but was wondering if anyone had had this happen. If so is it easy to fix without using the dealer?

I was really surprised to not find threads on this.

I've never used that compartment because it feels like the cheapest thing in the whole car.

Unfortunately if anything needs replacing you need to buy a whole new box. (No1 below)

They seem to be listed as $56 at ECS

I use it for my shades daily. Nice suede interior to protect them from scratching.

You won't have one if you got the safety package like lane departure warning, etc.

I thought that this was not the strongest storage tray ( can not hold glasses ) .... that is why

I use it for coins and receipts ( lots of them )
Clean up once a 1/2 year and I'm good .
