I feel the same as most, if I had family to haul around or clients to shuttle the M5 is a no brainer as the bang for buck choice. My decision was purely styling and that I like 2 door vehicles. I have a small daily driver that gets me from A to B and yes I feel more comfortable in my "hot hatch" backseat than the yoga inspired dimensions of my M6 backseat. I also prefer the driver tailored styling of the interior design and layout. The curvature and contrast stitching is just eye candy after a long day of looking at government vehicles.

Slower? Think you are mistaken Sir!
All reviews I've read talk about the M6 feeling and being physically quicker. Not that we'd notice a couple of 10ths of a second. Also check out track time comparos, M6 wins always. Sorry!

Nah, he leaves every morning about 5 to 6am for school, and picks his ride for the day, usually gone by the time I'm ready to go. That's what I meant by him "hogging" the M5.

Personally, I think the M5 looks better. Especially when done up right.

Gota encourage the youth now-adays to study hard, then you'll be well rewarded.

Plus, I work so much, hardly ever around, hope the fleet of cars will compensate for some...also, every time we spend quality time together, we are either working on the cars together, or washing & detailing the cars together....getting them in the shop for maintenance and such, squeeze in a conversation here & there to check in on him, and see how he is doing, otherwise the teenage boy won't even hang out with his mama...gota find a way to spend quality time with my son, right?

M5 is indeed a better looking and more proportional car. F10 had the 'wow effect' at launch that E60 didn't, at the same time F12 didn't have half of the 'wow effect' at launch that E63 had.

M6, M6 Convertible and M6 GC look like they're too young for their sizes and too big for their purpose to me. They look too gentle and peaceful and none of those characteristics are in my list when buying an ///M car. E63 looked evil

M5 also has more video reviews than the M6 (Top Gear, Fifth Gear, and etc.), and more vendor project cars and mods (IND, Manhart, 3D Design, and etc.). Maybe a vendor can let us know why?

Do you guys think the reason to the things above is because M5 may be more of a purpose built car (fastest/top four door in straight and on track) and M6 is more of a rich man's GT?

Cool For me the M6 Vert wins hands down

I have been a long time E39 Enthusiast, and have owned 2 M5's, one a 2001, and the other a 2002 Carbon Black. So, i love the look and utility of the M5 however, I am currently in the market for an M6 Convertible...

I would say that wanting to own a GT Convertible would be the best argument for choosing an M6 over an M5.

I have been over at Porsche for the last 6 months learning everything about them and after rigorous hours of test driving, I came back with the conclusion that the C2s, although a Great sports car in it's own right, was just too light and too small for me driving on our California Freeways, especially with all the behemoth SUV's and other imposing vehicles on the road. Obviously, these, "imposing vehicles" were not really an issue when driving my 08' Toyota Tacoma, and even when towing my MasterCraft...lol

The M6 however with it's top open while driving down the same Freeway's did not affect my pleasurable drive in the least. It had all the power I could ever want, it felt safe and the thought of those, "imposing vehicles" had nary even crossed my mind during the whole test drive, or should i say, "Flight to another world..."

The M6 felt safe and it rode solidly befitting anyone who could possess such a Grand vehicle. A good test for comfort while test driving vehicles would be driving on the, "Boobies..." Right? You guys know what I mean. Those little Bott's that shine at night that make that, "Hey dude Wake the $%#$ up before you smash your car!" Yes those. Take a 911, and an M6 or even an M5 for that matter and drive over those...Post your experience...lol

The open air, next to a California Coastline, with specifically NO Room for more than a Passenger, with just you and your beautiful wife driving to a favorite Bed and Breakfast with the tunes flowing from the Bang and Olufsen Stereo System, the wind blowing your hair, well I'm bald so... The wind Skimming over your head...lol All the Space and comfort one could want from the Multi-Contour seats and interior cabin design. The Large and Awesome display with technology to reduce glare. You get the picture...

So, yea I guess although most of your rationale was compelling to go for the M5, there are Special circumstances that would lend itself to purchasing an M6 over a comparable M5.

I'm with you. I have a 2012 650 vert 6MT and am waiting until July when I can get BMW to build a M6 vert with a 6 speed manual. I LOVE the 650 vert but can't warm up to the M6's DSC. It's a long time 'til July so yesterday we brought home a 2013 X5M in Carbon black to amuse us until a summer ED for the M6 vert.
