Only reason why I got a DCT was because the very first batch of F10 M5's for Euro Delivery were DCT only and I couldn't shift my ED date due to the fact that I wanted to be one of the very first Americans to get the new M5 for Euro Delivery back then. Otherwise I would have definitely got the manual even now knowing it's not exactly the best suited transmission for the car.

I have also owned both. I understand that now days, the automatic will always be more popular. Particularly in LA traffic. But even though the manual may not be as quick, it is WAY more fun to drive.

I just wanted to try DCT, since for years now it's been a staple of the supercar feature set. Also the reviews seemed to imply that the drop in engine speed and load during manual gear changes produced some turbo lag that wasn't there with the DCT since the engine was designed with DCT in mind.
My DD sports cars had been all manual shift, and was looking for an overall different experience. |
