M5 DCT Post Shift Power Dips ?
Coming from a DCT N54 and DCT S65, when the DCT shift the power remain continuous with no dips.
I drove an M6 and felt a dip in the power at post shifts with everything on Sport Plus and the DCT on aggressive mode ie level 3 I finally got to drive the M5 F10, and again, there was a power dip in post shifting, everything was all Sprot Plus out and the DCT set to its more aggressive mode. Does anyone with the M5 feel the dip at post shift. If you had driven a DCT N54 or DCT S65 the differences are very noticeable. |

Don't know what you are talking about. I've driven an E92 M3 with the DCT and the F10 M5/M6 DCT is much more refined and faster. Also when I race there is no apparant loss in power as you describe.

after driving all four cars with DCT, this is the best I can explain on the power deliver. This is what the power curve feels like at post shifts

Must be perception only. You are probably feeling a surge of power with the old transmissions because of the significant lag from gear to gear. There is a loss of power upon shift initiation and then an rush of power when the next gear engages.
The F10/12 generation DCT is far more linear and constant. No gaps in power delivery. The new transmission and engine are significantly faster. That's not debatable.

Try S2. I think i know slightly, what you mean. I find S3 very aggressive, with a big thump on changeup, and maybe the slightest of feeling, of the acceleration not feeling as seemless, as it does in S2, but its certainly not a dip in the power. I have S2 as the setting in both my M buttons. Im sure ive mentioned this myself on another post somewhere. Have a try of S2, and report back, regards, SIMON.

yes i notice this too.
it feels almost like a slight BOG of the engine. instead of an initial dig-in-and-pull, its the opposite, immediately after you shift. then theres a powerful surge. but it comes on very smoothly, almost as if not to scare you by giving you too much power all of a sudden., lol i notice it particularly because the 5.5 TT amg i owned had the exact opposite effect after a shift, it was almost as if you went up about 100 hp instantly. it felt much more satisfying than the shift in the dct m5. as well, just like it felt when pressing the M button in the e60 m5. incidently, that too is now much more mutted and dull, now with the 4.4 this topic is making me sad. |

it may be programmed in on purpose. I like the little kick between shifts.

Nah, go test drive an e60 again now. You'll be so excited to get back in the f10. I did this recently and all my fond memories of S6 in the SMG just faded to dust. The old tranny is a caveman compared to current DCT. The lag is eternally long and the car just isn't very fast. The old car sure does feel more nimble though.

i know id probably prefer the f10 , but only for the updated styling, comfort. not for the performance. i preferred the performance of the e60. not to mention the engine sound and exhaust note one thing is for certain, the next car i buy will be naturally aspirated. |

It's time to treat the M5 for what it is, a fast family sedan. And then go get a proper sportscar for true hooliganism!

2-3 10's slower to 60 mph? the sound and throttle response made up for it for me. and i never understood the complaints about torque of the v10. it seemed "torqier"(sp) to me, than this car. maybe because of the urgency of the torque delivery.? are you sure your e60 wasn't broken? lol |

If you are noticing this in the lower gears what you may be noticing is this: as the car changes from say second to third at WOT, it is dropping back into the torque peak when the change happens and is probably trying to break the tyres loose. Hence the TC throttles back the power momentarily until the tyres are once again 'hooked up'.
To check if it could be this look at the TC light to see if its flashing when you are noticing the 'power drop'. Bish |

So are you saying if you are WOT, shifting from 1-2 near redline, with traction controll fully disabled, it's hooking up instantly and smoothly? If so then you may have a software issue.
