I actually agree with you on that "M 528i" badging. My comment was that as long as BMW have started putting M badges on the fenders, that train has gone whether we like it or not...

Side question, is the M5 badge on the front kidney grill removable? I usually debadge my cars.

That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. Personally, I think it's dumb.
People who do this sort of badging are just immature. A teenager doing this is one thing. A grown man doing this, is well just that. I would t be bothered by it, except for maybe laughing at it.

Douche or not - who cares. It's just hilarious that there are people who are so uncomfortable about their situation in life that despite owning a 5 series they have to badge it M to get the confidence.
He was older...50's, at least. Maybe his kid did it and he just has no clue. Or maybe not.

Now 550's with M5 exhaust I am a bit jealous of. I had a 550 with a conversion roll up on me and it sounded angry!

True but those cars have the M-Sport package. the car posted above doesn't even have the M-Sport package (wrong bumper design).

I guess I will keep the front badge then, don't want to spend money on a non LCI grill. Thanks for the info.

The other day in San Francisco an M235i pulled up next to me and as he pulls forward I noticed that he took off the 35i and left is only the M2. sigh...

I guess this is okay, nothing to do with us.
just if i were them, i'd be freaking embarrassed when rolling up into a real m5.

My point is exactly. It's harmless, but personally, I'd feel like a tool if I rolled up to a real M car.

lol... I had what I thought was a standard 520d (side M badge but no side grilles) driver paying very close attention to my car as he edged forward in traffic...then I noticed he looked a bit sheepish...he went on ahead, after not letting me out of a side turning and bingo.. on the back he had a quad exhaust, but sounding very 520d.. check,, a tool !

Which proves my theory: these people know what they're doing is dumb, but they know there aren't a lot of M cars rolling around, so there's a slim chance they'll get busted. ...and they take that chance. ...and they get roasted in an M forum.
