1200 mile break in F10 M5

*Rant*

So i drop the car off today for my long waited 1200 mile break in service.
The SA calls me in 5 hours and says its complete. But I'm not in the area to pick it up. So i pick it up at 6:50. 10 min before they close. They already have gate half way closed. So i rush in go to give my name, the girl gives me paperwork to sign. I look and it says 1217 in 1220 out. So i'm thinking great. All those horor stories i heard were not true Valet brings my car and i drive off. They shut the gate behind me. I drive like 2 blocks and notice something odd. My hood is clean so they washed the car, which i specifically asked them not to do. And my odo indicates 1236! 16 miles over then what it says in the paperwork! So tomorrow i have to call SA and i want to hear what he will say about it. What would you do in my place?

They took your car when they went for lunch. Raise hell with them and take it somewhere else the next time if you can.

Fing dealers. Go back, raise hell and explain to them how this is wrong on so many levels. Depending on how pissed off you are, go full Spanish Inquisition on their ass and ask to speak with the tech and the valet to find out who put the miles on the car. Probably won't get you anywhere...but my bet is a valet took it out.

Just for future reference, I have gone to putting post it notes all over the damn car with the milage, do not wash, and contact me at my cell number if any drive off the lot is required. I also ask for this to be put in the service notes (so it is in their records).

join the club. post it note on dashboard and talk to SA when dripping car off. they all want you to rate them highly afterwards.

A 19 mile "test" ride seems excessive. I can understand the 3 miles on the paperwork, but almost 20 miles?

SA said they will investigate, most likely everyone will be off untill next week due to a long weekend. he didn't sound optimistic or promising. Today he said the tech took off early. But something tells me the tech did everything right. 3 miles to do break in service is understandable. Its the same as a test drive prior to purchase like 8 blocks, but 16 miles ?? Its like driving to where? Downtown ?

I would be soooo annoyed , but my dealership would never do this, they know better.
I would not be satisfied with a fob off, get to the bottom of it, the guy that that took it for cleaning is probably the culprit.

For this type of service, I just take my Macbook to the dealership and wait while they service the car. That nixes this type of behavior.

So update... The manager who drives an M also is willing to check the Cameras to see who took my car out and for how long. He will call me monday.

They don't need to test drive jack. Drain fluids, fill up to specs, check fluid, call me. I told the SA no one is authorized to drive MY car off the lot. Their test drive was around the dealer lot. Simple really.

I also put it in the paperwork authorizing work.

So need all of your advice.

Manager was supposed to call me back on monday. He never did.

Yesterday i called and left him a message.

He calls me back yesterday and leaves me a message.

And i quote, "I checked the cameras and saw the tech leaving and coming back after not too long. Then the hard drive crashed."

What would you guys think of this?

To me it sounds like he is the one, this is a dealership we are talking about, a DVR hard drive crashed right after tech brought my car in?

So he cannot check any further. Smells funny to me.

Does not sound right. They probably used your car to shuttle people (employees/customers). I will call/complain to the General Manager (the service manager reports to him) and explain to him your displeasure. If that does not work, take it to BMW USA marketing/sales department (make sure you tell the General Manager you will do this). Then the next step is publish/write your comment to Better Business Bureau, LA Times, Car&Driver and other car magazines. I guarantee you will get some response.

Which dealership is this?

looks like maybe new century in alhambra?
i want to know too, where the heck did this happen?
sounds like a load of BS, the hard drive broke, speak to the owner too
they will have a drop in M sales for sure if they do not rectify the situation
i will not buy from them either.
