Add a quart

Not trying to drive everybody crazy, but any real harm in adding a quart of Mobil 1 5w-30 to my car as the "add 1 quart" warning just showed up? Couldn't find castrol or BMW brand nearby (have on order from amazon) but didn't want to drive around with low oil for two days while waiting. If it's not a complete oil change, would this be bad news?

I do it all the time with Mobile 1 5w-30 never any issues. The service guy at BMW said it's no problem too.

That seems normal for v8 engines. Didn't think that BMWs had this problem though...

So, we do get a warning when it is a quart low? I have just been using that slow ass check feature in the garage every 500 miles or so.

That's what I do. I think you do get a warning, IIRC.

Yes, the "Low Oil" warning will come up on the iDrive screen when it gets low.
Prompts you to add 1 quart.

Can you ask a dealer to fill up 1 quart if you have the maintenance plan?

My 13’ drank oil like it was going out of style; dealer topped off all the time no questions asked. Luckily, my current 15’ M5 has not had this issue. Not uncommon with these cars.
