Door handles

Does anyone know how easy it is to remove the chrome part of the M5 door handle?

I'm looking to coat or paint them black in the UK. I see it's pretty easy to remove the door handle assembly.

Wrap or plastidip is easiest. No need to remove and risk breaking something.

Seen the IND... did email some time ago about it. But would rather sort UK if I can as it will cost me very little.

I don't see these listed on the IND site anymore.

Also, with the core program, I assume that I am now getting someone else's used handles that were originally painted another color. Will that show if someone takes a paint meter to the handles? Will that affect the quality, durability of the paint?

Mat - How did you do it in the end?.

Did you also say that you bought another set of side grilles to get them painted by your mate?. Don't suppose you want to sell your spare set?

Hello

Yeah I have the originals to collect tomorrow along with the exhaust, trim and front grilles.

Was going to paint them and ebay them, but open to offers.

I did the handles myself - took the chrome strips off using a trim tool, wrapped them in gloss black and then put them back on. It's not that hard to do.

That's interesting. It makes me wonder why IND doesn't just sell painted trim instead of entire painted door handle.

Yea I would do this if they did - the thought of taking my handles entirely off just annoys me. Can you not buy just the chrome trim maybe??

I wonder if the issue is that the paint may not have enough elasticity, whereas a wrapped chrome trim has enough elasticity. You can see he is bending the trim while removing it above.

I posted this question in another thread but did no get a response. Assuming I do the IND core replacement program, I assume that what I get in exchnage for my door handles are the door handles of a previous customer that have been repainted. is that not correct? If so, would that affect paint quality or durability? It should show if someone took a paint meter to the handles, but it unlikely anyone would do that I guess.

Wrapping isn't really an option for me since I woudl like them to be Space Grey and not black.

I would suggest calling Nate at IND. They may be able to do something different on request.

You can get pretty close on the color - close enough so you wouldn't be able to tell without looking really hard:

Also - the shop that wrapped my chrome strips did it without removing it from the handle; I watched them do it - it was (or at least looked) remarkably easy. You can look as closely as you want - impossible to detect that it's a wrap.

I remember white wrap being tough to match early on, has anyone tried it since?

Wrap. Works perfectly. No need to remove the strips. I've had mine for over a year now without a single issue
