Not sure ECU's are out and they need to put things back together.

Are you upgrading the hot side or the compressor side of the turbo? What are the specs?

The compressor side of the turbo was machined and a larger wheel was installed. The hot side was left as-is.

So, for us turbo novices, what does that mean? Will the larger diameter give more volume of compressed air through the engine with stock boost levels? Is this something, like the catless downpipe, that would improve horsepower without the need for a tune? And I'm sure would allow for a more powerful tune once that becomes available? Would the non-modified ECU be able to "adapt" to this improvement just as it is reported to do with the catless DP?

Yes, yes and yes. Now we must ask if they are replacing intercoolers for more efficient (more cooling) ones. The ECU is smart enough to compensate and with the upgraded wheel and ported compressor side it will flow more air at the same boost level. You will get more hp, but you would get the biggest benefit from a a tune that came along with it.

This is encouraging and there can be some improvement even without a tune at least. My dealer was kind enough to tell me that he feels the catless downpipes would not be a warranty factor, but I'd think the turbo mod would be more problematic for him and BMW! Thanks for the info.

Are you guys going to ceramic coat the hot side of the turbo? While more stressful on the metal, it should drop under hood temps considerably, and the higher exhaust temps should allow the turbo to spool even faster!

Upgraded turbos are in but the ECU's are out of the car now. It's a waiting game right now. Solid updates coming soon
