BMW Frozen Paint Maintenance / Repair?

Seems like frozen paints have been around long enough now that many people have had the chance to own them. Originally I thought it was a fad and never thought about ordering one, but Frozen Silver is pretty stunning on the F10 the more I look at it.

Honestly though, how easy is it to repair frozen paints should something happen? Do you need special body shops? Is there a premium on the paint? Does your insurance change based on the exclusivity? Any other differences would be appreciated.

I love Alpine White and Frozen Silver, both are close 1 and 2 for me, but if repair were very difficult it would be a deal breaker.

Bad choice of words - I was referring to repair.

It's what BMW didn't say in the video that's most revealing. Washing is one thing. Touching up and repainting are what an owner really wants to know about and the video says nothing on these points. What's really needed is a paInt protection film that matches the Frozen paint surface texture to avoid the two tone effect already being seen in pics.

Sorry, they still scare the crap out of me. Maybe after someone makes a detailing spray that's compatible. Also bizarre that synthetic / microfiber towels aren't allowed. I'm lost as to why the microfiber towels I use to remove water would do damage that a cotton towel wouldn't.

Of course, zero paint touch up discussion and the the inability to seal high damage probability areas we commonly now protect with clear bras etc worries me the most. I HIGHLY doubt there have been any relaxation of environmental constraints in Germany and while this finish is matte, it's still just another soft as hell BMW water based paint.

Xpel Stealth - a clearbra for matte paints.

I would imagine that these paints have pros and cons in terms of maintenance:

Pros:
- Hides dust well so you can wash less frequently
- Won't swirl since swirl marks are not deep, and the surface isn't smooth so swirls likely won't happen
- No need to wax

Cons:
- RIDS - etch marks if for instance some road debris flys across your hood or along the side of the car - may be difficult to polish out and will also be more visible on a matte paint than on a gloss one
- Chips and scratches - also more visible on matte paints, and dr color chip doesn't really have a solution for matte paints.

Is there a matte clear coat on the Frozen colors? Or is there one less layer of protection? Saw a frozen white SL tonight and it was stunning but I cringe at the thought of a scratch.

The frozen colors are the same paints as the glossy colors except that the frozen colors have a matte clear coat.

To my eye the BMW frozen colors still have a bit of a shine to them. Its kind of like a satin finish. They are not completely matte. They are a nice change of pace. I'm glad to see BMW offering them.

Frozen black is a head turner, so don't choose it if you don't want the attention.
