How to check if your car has been modded ?

I bought a used CP car from a main dealer last year and wanted to see how I might double check it is standard (engine)

The reason I ask is it really is quick enough on the road and only now, with KWV3, corner weighted, Dinan roll bars etc can I start to really use that power. I have had many performance cars before M3's, 911 RS's, Caterham's, other M5's etc and spent the weekend dabbling with a McLaren 675LT, which didnt totally embarrass it. I have had three occasions where I had power loss at a junction and limp mode ensued, only corrected by pulling over and restarting.

I am happy with the power output and not looking for more, but would like to know it really is fully warrant-able and not modified and unknowingly sold on by the main dealer

This^^^^^ or throw on a dyno and see what the numbers look like. Even better, run another M5 and see what happens.

if its been tuned you'll see the ecu's have been tampered with, usually a hint of black paste around the outside of them. is unlikely you have tell tale holes in ecu's as most if not all tuners in the uk still splitting them to tune. only US boys drilling holes..

that leads me on to say there is only really 1 tuner in UK who has properly worked out a decent tune, im in UK and i tried a couple of tunes that resulted in my car going into limp mode but overcome that now.

happy to share all info if you pm me

As others have said, you can quickly identify if the car was bench flashed by looking for any hole on the ECU which could be covered by OEM looking stickers. Just run your fingers over the sticker.

Non OEM clamps used on the ecu intercooler hoses as well could be a sign.

Also could have been opened instead of drilled.
